Yes. That is how it is supposed to work. Digital mode switches out all
baseband signal processing, i.e EQ, compander, speech processor, etc., so
that it cannot distort the digital mode signal. Just hitting PTT doesn't
change mode.

But I agree that it would make sense to have the mic signal path pass
through the processing modules while the digital-mode subcarrier via VAC
enters the baseband signal chain after all the processing modules except
the ALC/limiter. But that is not what happens.

Oh, if only PowerSDR were written in such a way that processing modules
could be snapped together in whatever order made sense.

[Flexradio] Equalizer won't switch from Digital to SSB..

2011-11-19 Thread Dan
My mic requires that I use the equalizer in PowerSDR (Heil PR-20). When
operating digital mode (i.e. SSTV) it's my understanding that by hitting the
PPT the VAC will be overridden to phone. This is useful when you want to
have a QSO between digital transmissions.

My problem is the equalizer is not automatically enabled when going from
digital to phone via the PPT. In order to operate the equalizer I have to
manually select USB or LSB.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Screen captures of my configuration:

Thanks for any help.

I was just wondering what pr781 users had their mic gain set at, mine needs to
be about 28 even when I speak loudly into it at about 4 inches, this is using
the front input,
When i load the default pr781 profile the mic gain is set to 10,,
Have I a problem with the front input preamp?

Re: [Flexradio] Equalizer

2009-08-14 Thread Tim Ellison
The TX EQ is performed in software and is enabled for all phone modes. It is
by passed for CW and DIGx modes. The mic preamp on the front panel is a
hardware preamp.

I have a PR-40. I can drive the rig to full output with it using no preamp and
the balanced line in on the back of the FLEX-5000. I choose not to do this and
use a mic preamp to provide additional "headroom" gain for the balanced line
input. So no it is not necessary.

The Flex 5000A manual states that the balanced microphone input on the back of
the rig does not have a 20dB preamp as it does for the front input.

Does the rear input bypass the PowerSDR equalizer as well?

Has anyone found it necessary to use an external mic preamp when using a
PR781 on the balanced input?

Thanks.

Re: [Flexradio] Equalizer

2009-08-14 Thread Dudley Hurry

Everett,

If you have the internal equalizer turned on in the Transmit profile,
moving from the front mic to the rear will only cause a slight loss in
gain (overcome this by raising the Mic Gain) so you should see much the
same audio performance, just slight gain change moving from the front to
the rear mic connector.

Yes. Do not use the TX EQ in Preview 9. :) It has a bug that causes

rewrite it. If you need the EQ in the console, I would recommend
sticking with an earlier preview version.

Let me clarify a few things about the equalizer:

1) We will not abandon the equalizer.
2) As Bob, N4HY, posted earlier, the problems with the current EQ are
understood and acknowledged.
3) Bob and I agreed on an approach this morning that should give excellent
performance without encroaching on any patents. He plans to do an equalizer
in the frequency domain (Fast Convolution Filtering) that works in a very
similar manner to the current RX/TX filter. It will probably have 10 bands
+/- that cover from about 100 Hz or so to around 6KHz. If you want more
than that you will need to use external EQ such as the W2IHY box or CuBase
that comes with the FireBox sound card.
4) The new EQ will be BEFORE the audio leveling, compression, and TX filter
so it should not have the problems associated with the original EQ of this
type a few months ago.
5) You probably won't get it as a Christmas present. ;>) It may be a New
Year's resolution, right Bob. ;>)
6) Once again, since it is software, you can simply download the latest
version when it comes for free.

We at FlexRadio want to thank all of you for a great year and for the many
contributions you have made to our success. We wish you a joyous Christmas
and a happy New Year.

will be out of town so I won't have a chance to give it a whirl for
several weeks.

The Cubase system works exceptionally well; however, I use an external
computer to run it.
I look forward to getting the Firewire Box and the seemless implementation
of Cubase on a single computer.

For operators who want a simple but incredibly good audio, I recommend
purchase of the W2IHY 8 band EQ and EQ plus. These boxes make the transmit audio
sound spectacular.

Merry Christmas and happy New Year.

Re: [Flexradio] Equalizer

2005-12-23 Thread Gerald Youngblood

Gerald

Well, I am not an audiophile, but have found the equalizer in Pre-Beta 9
Consoles to be a big help. I have gotten unsolicited compliments on my
audio using a POS Japanese mike. I also found peaking the audio on
receive around 600-700 Hz really helps on CW receive. I would miss the
equalizer if it were abandoned.

[Flexradio] Equalizer

2005-06-25 Thread David w Gardner
I just reinstalled 1.3.12 and when the equalizer is activated the receive
audio changes drastically when the sliders are moved. Earlier I was
seeing the same when the transmit bandwidth was adjusted but now that I
reinstalled the software the equalizer now changes the audio.
