Randy :

I am in the same boat with the Powemate except I am running WIN 8.1.

I did a bit of “Googling” and found this which might be helpful :

For any of the reviewers stating that the PowerMate does not work with Windows
7 64-bit, did you remember to configure it? Once you install the newest
driver/software package from Griffin's support page, currently v2.0.1 --> []

1. Install the software
2. Plug in the PowerMate
3. In Windows 7 navigate to your start menu and look for the newly installed
application titled "PowerMate"
4. In the PowerMate Editor application you should see any PowerMate devices
you've connected to your computer in the lower left corner.
5. Right click the PowerMate you want to edit and left click on "Configure"
6. Mess with settings or just click "Use Global Settings Only"
7. Modify global settings or enjoy as is.

It's that easy Enjoy your new PowerMate!

And this also has some useful info :

The Driver Issues:

Folks are having what they believe to be driver issues, but there's a
misconception here. This hardware doesn't come with or need any "driver" which
Windows doesn't already have. Specifically, the powermate uses HIDUSB.SYS which
is a default Windows driver for all Human Interface Devices, such as mice,
trackballs, keyboards, etc.. Aside from this default OS driver, the only thing
the powermate requires is the program itself (along with the plugins it comes
with), which runs as a memory-resident program.

What might be occuring is the program may not function well with Windows 7, I
haven't tried it yet on my Windows 7 system. However, what I believe is most
likely the actual problem, is how Windows 7 uses HID USB devices, as it's a
smidge different from XP. There's a different level of security intepretation
when software is run. I will update the review once I test this on Windows 7,
but as a general rule of thumb, try this:

* Run the powermate program (powermate.exe) in Administrator Mode (right-click,
choose Run as Administrator..)

* Make sure the powermate is plugged into a usb2/3 port which has full power
available, you can always try a different port (don't use USB extension cables!)

Let me know if this works. I will try again on WIN8.1 when I get a chance.

If you have win7 pro run it in xp compatibility mode. If not find the
.inf file for the Power Mate and edit it with notepad and add Win 7.
This should work fine since Vista, Win 7, and Win 8 all use the same
Vista kernel.

I also had issues with this. I reloaded the driver (the current one on the
Griffin website) several times and unplugged and reseated the USB connector
several times. I was beginning to think in terms of a bad connector when the
thing finally started working one way or the other. I hate problems that fix
themselves without any clear reason to point to at a later date.

I had the same problem until I followed the driver install procedure to
the letter.

What's the secret to get the Power Mate to come up working every time?

I seem to have to disconnect and reconnect a few times for it to be
found.
