Re: [Flexradio] Heil Proset Elite RX & TX Eq settings suggestions?

2012-11-12 Thread Michael Walker
Hi Zack

I would start with the Heil profile you have, and then go through the audio
chain alignment. I would also keep the EQ flat as the Heil mics have
already been eq'd so to speak for SSB communications.

I am sure you have read this:
http://www.heilsound.com/amateur/products/prosetelite/.

Also, don't hesitate to email Heil and ask them about their recommendations
for a Flex. They helped me with my remote base setup on eq.

I've been a big fan of Heil mics since the 90's and have used nothing but.
I am pretty sure you will find it a great addition to the 5000.

[Flexradio] Heil Proset Elite RX & TX Eq settings suggestions?

2012-11-12 Thread vtnn43e

I am going to order a Heil Proset Elite for use with my 5000 and would like to
know what would be good starting points to set for the RX & TX EQs.

Can one of the PSDR scope displays be used to make these adjustments?

The headset will be mainly used for DXing.

Re: [Flexradio] Heil Proset vs Elite, HC-4 vs HC-6?

2012-11-02 Thread Terry Maurice

Hi Zack

I have the Heil Proset Elite and like it a lot. I have had good on-air
reports about it. At first I found it a bit uncomfortable out of the
box, but after adjusting it I have not had any problems with it. I
tried the Proset-4 at the store while listening to a Flex 5000A and I
felt that the audio quality and volume level was much better with the
Elite. I operate a Flex 5000A and a Flex 1500 and have found that both
work well. I do a lot of weak signal VHF DX work and have found it
quite listenable. With the Flex radios, of course, you can adjust the
Rx and Tx response, so I thought it would be better to have a set that
had a wider frequency range that I could adjust for whatever purpose I
wanted, than to have one that is limited.

There are 2 Heil adapter cables for Yaesu radios: AD-1Y (8-pin round

Do you know the specific model for the Heil adaptor.

As I read their catalog, the Yaesu adaptor is yellow and there are several
flavors.
Heil claims it will work with Flex equipment, but don't include it in their

Output of the DVK plugs into the F5Ka directly.

[Flexradio] Heil ProSet with the SDR-1000 and Delta-44

2007-06-05 Thread Gerald Capodieci
I've used the Heil ProSet/C5 with the SDR-1000 and Delta-44 for over 6 months
and when correctly adjusted have had absolutely praise reviews from all. The
most important setting is the EQ provided within the PowerSDR software,
although all other settings listed below enhance the signal. I plug the headset
directly into the Delta breakout box just to reduce the number of wires used.
It doesn't really matter but using the panel plug on the SDR requires wiring a
Yaesu plug and still attaching a stereo patch cable from the back of the SDR to
the breakout box. I use no external hardware but position the boom mic about an
inch away from my mouth and just below my lips. The mic is not as room noise
resistant as I would like so because of my soft voice, noisy computer and AL82
amp, I always use the Noise Gate. Here are my settings yours may need to differ:

  Mic Boost=NOT checked (not needed)
Latency=not checked
Mic Gain=55, Noise Gate= -35 (this depends on your room noise)
(Heil C5 Headset, other mics may differ)
NOTE: When using these settings, be sure to use the "Leveler" or "EQ" on
the TX EQ monitor or you may over-drive the transmitter.
To use Leveler and ALC the NOISE GATE MUST BE ENABLED (Feedback Will occur).
  Leveler=checked, MaxGain=12, Attack=3, Decay=5000, Hang=5000
ALC: Attack=10, Decay=3, Hang=5000
  TX Equalizer=checked, Preamp=6, TXEQ1=+6, TX EQ2=-6, TXEQ3=+8
ESSB:= -100 -3200Hz, Compander=2, Compression OFF

[Flexradio] Heil ProSet with the SDR-1000 and Delta-4

2007-06-04 Thread James T. Rogers, W4ATK
Indeed I do use the ProSet with my SDR-1000. I plug directly into
the Delta 44 IN3.

The Yaesu Heil adapter with the pistol grip PTT will not work
without some changes. Also you should be aware of the internal wiring
between the front panel MIC jack and the rear panel MIC jack on the
SDR-1000. A standard stereo cable from the 1/8" rear panel MIC jack
to the 1/4" Delta 44 will not work, as provision has been made to
isolate the audio from chassis ground through the SDR-1000

.The audio - (pin 7 of the front panel jack) is not common to ground
rather it is connected to the RING of the rear panel MIC jack.
The audio + (pin 8 of the front panel jack) does indeed connect to
the TIP of the rear panel jack.
The SLEEVE of the rear panel jack is at chassis ground.

With a mono plug such as on the ProSet, you will have to make some
provision to complete the audio circuit.

Tom,

I am using the Heil ProSet Plus with the Delta-44 card.

I found that it does need a pre-amp. Otherwise, the mic gain has to be
set too high & I get some instability. I use an NCS Multi-Switcher to
switch the headset between my SDR & my FT-847. The Multi-Switcher
includes a pre-amp for leveling the audio between different audio
sources.

I use the Heil Yaesu adapter cable, plugged into the Multi-Switcher &
the Multi-Switcher is plugged into the front panel connector on the SDR.

Re: [Flexradio] Heil Proset and SDR-1000

2006-08-19 Thread John Basilotto
Jim, Below is a post I made last week. Heil cables do not work with the
SDR1k.

The wiring plan below is what you need to get your microphone working. I
don't recall the color wiring scheme, if you need more help let me know.
73

For those of you who have hum problems with your Heil Goldmine microphone,
please note the correct wiring is as follows
The below wiring scheme results in no hum...
XLR 1 to 8P- 7 shield
XLR 2 to 8P- 8 Mic+
XLR 3 to 8P- 5 PTT
XLR 4 to 8P- 6 PTT

MAKE NO OTHER CONNECTIONS, WHICH INCLUDES REMOVING ANY WIRE ATTACHED TO THE
8 PIN CONNECTOR BODY.

The Heil Yaesu cable doesn't work properly with the SDR1K. The proper cable
for use of the Goldmine [and other Heil microphones with 4 wires] with the
SDR is available from FlexRadio or from Julius, W2IHY.

Julius is a FLEXER; he can make a cable to your specifications. He'll
gladly share his experience pertaining to the right audio and EQ settings.

I fear I just bought 200 bucks worth of Heil that I cannot use as is.
Any
help would be appreciated. I hates being without a schematic of the SDR-1000
so I could tell what is what on the 8 pin connector.

Is there a transformer or mic amp with balanced input in the SDR-1000
enclosure? Or should I wire 7 to 5 and forget the interconnect cable between
the SDR-1000 Mic connector on the rear panel and the Delta 44 has a ring?
