Re: [Flexradio] ICOM 7800?

2012-09-12 Thread bowenw
Lee, Darryl & Tim,

The Icom IC-7800 is a GROSSLY over-rated radio, and "Exhibit #1" that
more money does NOT buy better performance or more "real radio". Of the
IC-7xxx series the 7800 is the oldest design and is getting a bit "long
in the tooth" (the 7600 is actually a far better radio for 1/2 the $$,
though you do give up the 2nd receiver), and there are numerous radios
for 1/2 the price or less (example: any of the Flex models) that will
outperform it.

There are still many hams that are married to the "gotta have more
knobs on the front panel" paradigm, and radios like the Flex don't even
compute with them (pun intended). As for me, I much prefer the
computer-operated radios (I use my secondary TS-480 with the computer
interface a lot more than with the control head).

Bill K8WHB

Just imagine what you have with the Flex5000A ! I know that the new radios
are a bit beyond my intellect and resources so I don't worry about them !

You missed the fact that the 3000 has better IMD DR3 at narrow spacing
specs. So does the 1500 ;-)
