I just answered my own questions below, so you might want see what happened.
Low voltage input to the radio!! It will run down to about 10.5 volts
but not below that.
I happen to realize that I had switched batteries and had the charger
for that bank turned off. Duh.

It appears that the antenna switcher, hru board or something like that
is wacky. I used to be able to hear the 5000 switch bands when
changing bands, etc. Now nothing. No receive on any band. Just to make
sure antenna, amp and tuner is working correctly, I hooked up the 1500
and all is well. Going back the the 5000, all dead.
Also depending on NR, NB, settings on 5000 at this stage, There is a
huge dip and then a big spike located below the "chosen" frequency. I
would attach a photo but not sure that is allowed here.
Any way to reset the hardware back to default??
Already have tried with no sucess, Reset database = multiple times,
Uninstalled all flex software multiple times and reinstalled, swapped
antennas spiqits multiple times. checked antennas with 1500 = works,
pulling my hair out.
This started last night while switching bands back in forth between 20
meters and 40 meters, fairly rapidly. As in listen for 2 seconds and
then back to the other band.
Forgive my spelling. all help appreciated.
