Re: [Flexradio] Odd signal while TX using CWX

Don,

That did not take care of the problem; you just thought it did. What you &
Mario are seeing is the results of a bug that appeared in v2.0.16 when they
left the panadapter on during CW transmissions. (See my previous reply to
Mario.)

The TX filter settings of the currently-selected TX profile have NO effect
on the transmitted signal during CW transmission. Notice that the option to
change the TX profile is not there in CWU or CWL modes. That is because the
TX profile is not used for CW.

To prove this, select a "normal" TX profile, let's say "Default DX". Switch
to CWU or CWL, send a series of dits (or dahs), and observe your power
output on an external power meter. Then create a special TX profile with TX
filter settings that do not include 600 Hz. For example, I have a custom TX
profile that I use for RTTY. The TX filter settings are 1950 Hz to 2450 Hz.
Then switch to CW and again observe the power output when you send a string
of dits or dahs. You will see that they are the same. If the TX profile
filter settings were active on CW, then the power output should be zero.

Mario,

This is a bug that appeared in v2.0.16. It continues in v2.0.17. It does
not affect the functionality in any way, so it probably is way down the
priority list.

In previous versions, the panadapter display was blank during CW
transmission. This was done for processing resource reasons. Starting with
v2.0.16, the panadapter is on during CW transmissions, but provides no
useful information about the transmitted signal.

What is displayed is a band of noise corresponding to the currently-selected
profile's TX filter. The TX filter is not used for CW transmission,
therefore the current TX filter settings are irrelevant; they do NOT affect
the transmitted CW signal. However, they DO affect what is displayed on the
panadapter during CW transmission.

I believe that the intent is for the panadapter to display the spectrum of
the transmitted signal in CW, the same as other modes. The bug is that it
fails to do that.

[Flexradio] Odd signal while TX using CWX

2011-01-30 Thread Don Sachnoff
Mario

I found something similiar though I dont recall it being as wide so I just set
a
xmt filter to narrow the xmt bandwidth and that took care of that problem,
though, it would be nice to know what was causing that and if that was really a
problem with the radio.

Hi David:

Thank you for your response. I disconnected all mics from the radio and I
still get 3 khz wide constant signal and the CW peak on the TX freq.
I guess there is another signal source which I cannot locate. BTW, VAC is
off

Hi Mario

...And if you talk into your microphone it will appear as though you are
modulating SSB.

I found that by disconnecting the mic while in CW will stop any movement
on the panadaptor while in CW TX mode.

Dave

I just noticed that when I TX on CW using CWX on PowerSDR Beta 2.0.16 I
get the CW peak on the correct TX freq but I also see a signal on the
PANAFALL which is about 40db and 3 KHZ wide. Could this be that I am
getting a signal from another AF source. Which setup button should I
change to get the common gauss curve which peaks at the TX freq?
