Re: [Flexradio] Portable power supply for Flex-3000?

2013-09-24 Thread Brian Miller

Thanks for all the suggestions about portable switched mode power supplies.

I'll have a closer look at the Alinco DM-330MV, Powerwerx SPS-30DM and
Samlex SEC-1235 options.

At home I use an ALINCO DM-340MV big supply.

For Field Day and other demonstrations I use a PowerWerx.com SPS-30DM very
small switching supply.
It has a digital voltmeter and ammeter and is adjustable from the front.
Have not heard (or seen) any noise yet.

Brian,

I have several Alinco DM-330MV supplies & have never had any trouble with
them. The oldest one developed noisy fan bearings after about 9 years of
almost continuous operation, but that is the only hint of trouble I have had
with any of them.

I have never detected any RFI generated by the supply.

Re: [Flexradio] Portable power supply for Flex-3000?

2013-09-19 Thread K0DAN

I have a F5K so don't go portable with it...but I do go portable with an
IC706iiG and bought one of these because of its size/weight:

http://www.mfjenterprises.com/Product.php?productid=MFJ-4125P

I also like that it has some binding posts and a few PowerPoles.
For 25A it is TINY!

I am not a big fan of MFJ, but have had good luck with this PS. I hear
some minor birdies & warbling when portable, but think it's environment
and not the PS. Manageable. Fan makes a whirring noise but also manageable.

Subject: [Flexradio] Portable power supply for Flex-3000?

Hi all

I'm looking for a small and lightweight AC power supply to power my
Flex-3000 radio when travelling.

I'm thinking of a small switch mode supply but it will need to be very quiet
from an RF noise perspective.

Any recommendations for a power supply in this category?

Thanks and 73

The SEC 1235M is also great. I have used it and its meterless cousin for
many years without any trouble. AES sells them (among others).
