Re: [Flexradio] Question on buying a used 3000

2014-01-13 Thread Lee Mushel
Yes, Neal, my 3000 went back for this "whatever reason." I don't think it
was any Big Thing and I recall that when it got back to me I shook the radio
and it "rattled." To the credit of Flex they simply told me to open the
case and identify the rattle source. It turned out to be a surface mount
resistor and I was able to identify it with the help of my Smart Tweezers.
I was then asked to photograph a certain point and from that photo they
determined that nothing was missing and the resistor must have been
accidentally overlooked in the modification process. End of story. I was
always pleased because they obviously had enough faith in my technical
ability to assure that any problem could be identified "remotely."

But I would certainly like to add one point for the benefit of the "new
comers" to the Flex Community who might not be aware of all of the rumors
and unsubstantiated fears that something might be wrong with this, that or
something else. You can be sure that part of the Flex Owner Culture is the
occasional rise of the fear that Engineering Change Orders for imagined
upgrades or repairs of defect might have taken place in the past. There
have been an infinite number of postings on the reflectors covering these
fears. I don't think we have to go through this again!

John,

I don't think you have anything to worry about.

The only thing I remember is there was a preamp mod done right after the
radio was introduced, I think the preamp was too "hot" so it had to be
tamed a bit. Bit this was literally months after it was introduced so I
think you are okay!

Besides, if it isn't I am sure Flex will do it for you!

2014-01-13 Thread John Paolucci
Is there any difference hardware-wise, or upgradability-wise in acquiring an
older 3000, say, early 2010? Are there any models at a certain date, that had a
hardware upgrade?
