This is great. Does anyone have a similar list for Vista?

Thanks

First of all, this is my list of services (and what I turn off on the
computers I sell). This list is neither suggested nor endorsed by
anyone, especially those living in Austin, TX or Cary, NC (Flex and
Tim for the geographically challenged)!

List for VISTA is simple ... turn the whole damn thing off, load XP, and use
the XP list.

Seriously ... it isn't worth the effort ... I tried for months and I
couldn't be happier back on XP.

I was going to suggest exactly the same thing.

Turn off Vista, install XP.

Maybe in 2 or 3 years when the have W7 debugged, then W7?

Go to www.tweakhound.com and look at his tweaking Vista pages. He has
2 pages on what services you can turn off. Just remember to not go
more aggressive than Level 2, it pays to take a system backup
beforehand and read the text about what each one does and see if you
know if you use it.

I also remove the Google Desktop Indexer (or whatever it's called).

I *never* run Auntie Virus software.

I agree 100% about using a hardware firewall - in my case ZyWall.

One step further -- do not install *ANY* 3rd-party toolbars or
convenience add-ons. If your computer comes with things like this,
remove them. If there is a Microsoft-supplied way to accomplish a
task, use it instead of third-party software.
