I just flag any email that comes from a yahoo or Hotmail account as [SPAM??]
as a matter of course now. The inherent lack of ability to assign a strong
password to their accounts just irks me.I know you would not be
surprised with how many hams use their Callsign or their Dog's name as a
password!
The Yahoo and Hotmail SMTP server allows unlimited password tries without
locking the account, so dictionary attacks work well against them.

I find that equipping Firefox with the NoScript plugin eliminates most risks
from accidentally visiting malware-installing sites (which is how these
miscreants infect people's email programs to begin with to send out these
"promos").
NoScript causes your browser to forbid the running of ALL scripts or
embedded code on any site -- unless you specifically allow them to run. Many
sites run faster and better and more ad-free without them anyway!
