The two-test in the setup/test panel accomplishs the same thing. A PEP
Wattmeter is required or a Monitor scope. If one only has a average
wattmeter, they will see the average power and not peak. Two tone tests
were the industry standard for many years and built into litterally all
monitor scopes.

The Array Solutions Power master is an excellent device for tuning
amplifiers. The 3KW meter is now available from FlexRadio at $450.

Alan posted this Feature Request #2120 in March.

"http://support.flex-radio.com/ReviewBug.aspx?id=2120&it=F";

Report Detail:

The Tune function would be considerably enhanced if the user could
select a pulse mode. Tuning a Linear amplifier with a low duty
cycle pulse instead of a constant carrier has great advantages.
While examining the RF output on a scope setup to display a
trapezoid, the amplifier may safely be driven to full power as
long as needed and tuned for best linearity. Tuning at full power
is the most accurate way! With duty cycles less then 20% the
amplifier will never overheat. Finally, if QSK were available (
like break-in CW) and the 5000 could switch to receive during the
80% off time, one could actually hear what's going on on the
tuneup frequency! Keeps user out of trouble..

Three menu settings should be included.
  1. Pulse rate -# of pulses per second from 8 to 24
  2. ON Pulse width -for setting ON Pulse duration from 1 to 20
milliseconds
  3. Mode select -continuous or pulsed. Changes mode & color of
TUN button on front panel.
