Re: [Flexradio] [SPAM] Contesting practices?

Lee,

I use N1MM also. Virtually all of my contesting is S&P, & it is all SSB (so
far). I start out by clicking on the spots on the N1MM band map. When the
spots run out, I click on the sigs on the panadapter.

I use N1MM. I either use the N1MM band map for S&P I use point and click if I
use powerSDR, for wide band excursion I just turn off the point n click cursor
and use the "hand" to move up or down the band. To get the "hand" turn off the
cursor with the right mouse and just put the mouse on the bandscope and left
click and give er a yank. Very slick I've used the SDR and the Orion in
contests using N1MM and found the SDR to be superior contest radio for S&P
because of its superior selectivity and AGC.

I sold my Orion.

Re: [Flexradio] [SPAM] Contesting practices?

2007-07-14 Thread FireBrick
Neal, I'm taking a break fro IARU and I'll give you my 'style'
I contest two handed.
One on the mouse, and left hand with a Griffin placed just left of the
keyboard.
and I use both
Griffin and mouse.

Normally, if S&P, I just just mouse/right hand to scroll down the band map
in Writelog, either clicking on a cluster spot or actually scrolling via the
mouse.
Major excursion across the band are done with the Griffin.
Push Down on Griffin and you can speed up your scroll.

Left hand hits the Buffer Fkeys on the keyboard.
In both rtty or cw contesting, I keep the bandpass NARROW.

And if the programmers are reading this.
250hz wide is too large for crowded cw and 100 is too narrow.
So I use a VAR1 of about 150hZ, as that gives me the the station I want, and
also lets me know if he tends to listen off freq.
In rtty, I use the 250hz filter.

Note for programmers, I find it difficult to adjust the width with the mouse
slider.
I end up bumping the Low/High numbers witht he up/down arrows.
Also find that the Tune steps need a 5Hz step and should have buttons in
addition to the -/+
Maybe a 'user set 3 buttons.

Writelog works well with PWSDR, the only gotcha ...is the 'focus' issue.
But I've gotten pretty good at realizing where the mouse is and what has
focus.
(griffin needs focus on PWSDR to function)
Wish there was a way to lock the Griffin on PWSDR.

This cw contest, I played with using the equalizer to tighten the cw
pitch/background noise to my moderate employment loss of hearing.

Give that a try, it really helps the fatique level.
"It's not just your fathers pig farmer equalizer"
It really helps with cw also.

As the Marin County Sundancers said..."I'm not interested in sounding good.
I'm interested in sounding LOUD."

(I may have dated myself with that last paragraph.)
