Re: [Flexradio] Again USB adapter problem
Hello All I promissed to keep yoy posted. I have beeb verry busy lately, but have the SDR1k working. :) As I needed yhe 1k badly I instlaaed a new computer (ASUS S-presso) with an onboard par-LPT port. When I was proudly listening to te first sounds I could not resisting to try the USB-PAR adapter om this computer -- Found new hardware Cypress EZ-USB FX (2235) -- @!! (sorry) so I tryed it again on another computer -- Found new hardware ------ Unkown hardware -- BTW the short while the adapter worked om the ShuttleX it mentioned the Cypress, other times only unkown (both running winXPpro and latest updatesas far as I know) I will try the USB-PAR adapter on some more computers now (have not send it back to flex jet) to see what happens. any ideas somone, pulling on the cable or shaking does not matter -Oorspronkelijk bericht- Van: petervn Verzonden: vr 5-5-2006 2:54 Aan: Ahti Aintila; Sami Aintila CC: petervn; Willi Reppel; FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz Onderwerp: RE: [Flexradio] Again USB adapter problem Hello All I like to understand what is wrong with my technical gear, having worked in technical/electronical research my whole life. If its only a broken wire I could fix that witout a problem. I also understand that warranty is a problem when everybody is messing around. On the other hand I have 魨 Euro’s of new stuff that is not dooing anything. I can try to measure the impedamce of every of the (4) wires to see if a wire is broken. Visual (from the outside) the stainrelief looks OK. I could mesure the current that the adapter takes from the powersuply, and look if there is some signal on the datalines. But I have nothing to compare. I have no USB protocol analyser…. Sending to and from takes some time, faster also money. I check tomorrow if I can get the optional LPT-port on the Shuttle-X PC working, if not I think of ordering a second USB-PAR adapter. If in stock that will be the fastest way….. Would it be nice to have the small USB-plug on the adapter and a standardcable for the USB connetion need the ferrite clipon a well think. My best guess is the cable at the adapter end. The cable stress relief may have slipped and wire broken. If you want to open, check yourself and repair it, ask FlexRadio's permission first. Re: [Flexradio] Again USB adapter problem
Peter, If you were to start up your computer with the usb/parallel cable plugged in and connected to a powered-up radio, and if you inspect the devices - what drivers are there in the usb 2.0 category? Do you see the same Cypress driver that I am using? If the driver is absent, can you successfully configure it to use the offered Cypress driver? Assuming you can get to the point where the/a driver is configured, can you then go into PowerSDR setup, confirm your intention of using USB, and commence using the radio? If not, what errors get reported? Your situation sounds so similar to what I had initially that I'd still suspect some sort of driver or setup issue. Of course, having been through the Software School of Hard Knocks, I learned quite a while ago that when we set out to resolve _the_ problem that is causing us grief, we shouldn't be surprised to discover that there were in fact 2 or 3 or more problems;) I hope this isn't so in your case. Please report your findings so we can help you get your radio operational - you have the immense knowledge base of this fine reflector standing by! Re: [Flexradio] Again USB adapter problem
If you suspect the adapter is bad, package it up with a note and send it back to us. We'll be happy to take a good look at it here. Has my adaptercable a fault? (it fails to install on another computer...) This really sounds like a hardware problem with the USB adapter. I asked Peter to do some software tests, and we could confirm that the Cypress driver is installed correctly. There doesn't seem to be any conflicting drivers on his computer either. I don't know if there's any easy way to diagnose this kind of intermittent problem without disassembling the adapter. Maybe it would be safer to send it back to FlexRadio and ask for a replacement?
