Some time ago I wrote that I was having trouble with CVS compiling under
Cygwin using gcc version 3.4.4-1, on a Pentium 4 2.8, with a Nvidia GForce
5200 using driver 77.77. FG complies without error, but hangs at the end of
"loading scenery objects". Running --log-level=debug shows that the main
loop is in fact running, while the splash screen fades in and out at about 1
hz.
This behaviour has been confirmed by AJ on a similarly specified machine.
Meanwhile Norman Vine's version exits without any apparent fault or
exception at much the same point.
After many trials it seems that the last date on which cvs compiled and ran
was around 10 - 12 Aug. Up to now it has neither proved possible to track
the date down more accurately, as the results are inconsistent, nor which of
SG or FG are to blame. I will continue to investigate further.
