Another funfly would be fun, but here's another idea that takes less
coordination, and so could be done more frequently. We could have a
fly-in from time to time. The airport and time chosen in advance, and
people can fly in with their favorite aircraft. If we all aim to
arrive at roughly the same time, the traffic could be quite
interesting. We could even use chat as a CTAF, though we'll
conveniently forget to invite the virtual FAA.

I suggest that the best way to coordinate these sort of events would be through
the FligherGear Forums, as it would allow them to be announced well in advance
without the messages getting lost as they might be on the list.

Curt - could you create a new Forum for this please?

I suggest a label of Virtual Fly-Ins and Events, and a text description of

Virtual fly-ins, fly-outs, competitions and other multi-player events. Find out
details of up-coming events, sign up for competitions, or organize your own tour
of a favourite location.

ie: for a 10 figures (from 0 to 9) texture strip, when I would expect
   number 0,
I get number 1. This is probably due to the offset not being taken in
   account
   anymore.

Hope you'll can find what's wrong about that,

That's too deep in the internals for my understanding to be sure of
anything. That said, it looks to me as the code would calculate
something along value=property*factor+offset, which would match my
expectation and some of my construeing the model-howto. Why the A-10
fuel drums use offsets of powers of 10 I'm unsure about; perhaps that
was needed previously, but it looks wrong in the first place, given the
above mentioned expectation. So when replacing the offsets with -0.1,
(and the latest cvs, not my hack) the fuel gauge seems to work again.
(Please see attached patch)

As Alexis says, the result is no longer correct from the textranslate,
see the TACAN indicator in the A10 for example... I would try to offer
suggestions, but since the Make use of the expression stuff change to
scene/model/animation.cxx I haven't a clue about what is going on
  anymore.

I didn't look into that, but perhaps the the same as said above applies
here too.

it works for me again , except factor seems to be ignored , but I can work
 around that ...

I can't reproduce that, i.e. since the latest cvs (meaning the commit by
frohlich of Dec 31 15:48:02 2007 UTC) messing around with factors in
Aircraft/b1900d/Instruments/altset.xml (please forgive my again ripping
her apart *g*) did work as expected.

Though when playing around to come up with my previous post, I had
somehow the impression, that depending on different combinations of
configuration properties some of them tended to get ignored. That lead
me to an inconclusive search in that expression stuff. I still entertain
a vague suspicion, that perhaps the animation_value and value
business (or the simplifying) as it existed before the latest cvs might
have been erroneous, although I could not isolate anything specific.
Someone more in the know could perhaps keep an eye on that.

Hi all,

I have upgraded Asterisk to version 1.4. The conferences should now have
an auto-mute feature: onlay one (the first) person can speak.

Equally, there are those who don't and won't follow any mailing lists :)

I think I may guilty of mixing up the message and the delivery mechanism here.

The main point is that there should be a location which will easily allow people
to:
- Post information about upcoming events.
- Sign up for and ask questions about those events ahead of time.

I don't feel that the -user or -devel list is the place as the events may be
some
months in the future.

Neither is the main FG website, as Curt doesn't have the bandwidth to
continually
update it.

The Forums seem a fairly good place, and are quite popular with newcomers to FG.
You don't need to log on to view the posts, so an announcement to the -user list
with a link direct to the post would hopefully pass muster. If you were to screw
up your eyes, you could pretend that it was a static web page ;)

The wiki would be an alternative, but it isn't as easy for people to ask
questions on a forum.

I expect that in reality, more organizers will want to advertize events as
widely
as possible - to the forums and the -user list. Maybe the answer is for the
events to be posted to the wiki so they can be linked to?

I think an additional category on the Forums would be a good idea even if people
post information to a wiki and simply use it as an announcement board. It would
probably galvanize new people to try setting up their own events, and it
wouldn't
clog up the General Help board any more than it is already.

Re: [Flightgear-devel] Multiplayer Funfly.

2008-01-02 Thread Sébastien MARQUE
Hi all, and happy new year,

I arrive a little after the battle, so I couldn't participate to this
event, but anyway I really wish to see more and more events using mp.
Each month a part of the the French community takes place to fly with
each other around remodelled terrains and sceneries sitting in France.
The first sunday of each month (next one the 6th of january), indeed.
For sure this time and place is almost only French speaking as some of
us have troubles with Sheakespeare's native language :D but surely it
has absolutely no restrictions and everyone is welcome.

Moreover I wanted to talk about an special event type : rallyes. Indeed,
the rules are quite simple: you have to follow a route, as best as you
can, not only the fastest as possible, but in an certain amount of time
(depending of aircraft you use). I wrote a little script in perl
intented to be the contest director, and to count bonus and malus (given
in seconds). Creating a route, and the rules (scale, check points,
duration, etc.) is rather simple and made by a conf file. I have some
routes (created by Pierre Geoffroy), but haven't taken the time to
create the rallye, btw if someone is interested in managing such an
event, here is the script:
http://seb.marque.free.fr/fichiers/flightgear/check_logs (perl)
and here a conf example:
http://seb.marque.free.fr/fichiers/flightgear/waypoints

it is feeded by the fgms log files.

hope someone will find this interesting enough to continue what I
haven't succeeded in, by a lack of time (most common excuse I know ;)).

best regards
seb

ps: I have to modify a little bit the script in order to allow entering
the beginning and ending date of the event in the conf file. If you've
got questions about the script I'll be very pleased to answer as quick
as I can.

[Flightgear-devel] [PATCH] fix mp chat

2008-01-02 Thread Csaba Halász
Hello all,

it seems that clearing the property node for the processed messages
fixes the problem
of messages being repeated with incorrect pilot id.

Probably just another unfortunate side-effect of reusing the AI
property nodes. (sorry folks)
As such, alternatively we could clear it from c++ code.

Let me know if it works.

[Flightgear-devel] How to control multi aircraft in FG simultaneously?

2008-01-02 Thread tangyong
Hi,everybody.I am doing an project of A-SMGCS(Advanced Surface Movement
Guidance and Control Systems). An A-SMGCS should support the following primary
functions:

a) surveillance;

b) routing;

c) guidance; and

d) control.

A-SMGCS should manage all kinds of vehicles(including aircrafts and cars) on
airport. So I need to simulate more than twenty aircrafts moving on the airport
surface to test A-SMGCS.FG multiplayer can support multi aircrafts to fly
together, but that means I need twenty persons to control twenty FG instances. My
question is that how can I modify FG to adapt multi aircrafts to run in one
instance and I can switch from one aircraft to another to control it.When I
control one aircraft ,the others could move automatically. The flightplan can
support multi aircrafts, but the scenario is writed in the xml files
initially. We can not modify the flightpalan when the FG is running.Could
anybody give me some design ideas?Should I use AI module to do that, can FG been
modified to support this?

Greetings

Tangyong
