[Flightgear-devel] FlightGear used in a worldwide unique paragliding simulator!

2012-01-21 Thread Heiko Schulz
Hi,

found by accident today: FlightGear is used in a worldwide unique paragliding
simulator!

ActiveFly is a simulator just for paragliding. It let's you practice
paragliding on the ground.

"In order to make practicing with the ActiveFly Simulator as realistic as
possible, the harness as well as the risers and brakes are suspended below a
frame in such a way that they can be operated. The brakes are extended and
retracted via servos, simulating steering forces as they occur in a particular
situation. The pilot will try to keep these forces constant by pulling or
releasing the brakes. His actions can be viewed on a monitor and subsequently
evaluated, allowing him to check the results and monitor progress as he
develops his piloting skills."
quote from www.activefly.com/simulator_en.htm.

As visualizing system they use FlightGear.

Some bigger images which shows the sim in action:

Maybe they should use some of our new generated sceneries. But great to see how
FlightGear can be used in many ways!

Cheers
Heiko

[Flightgear-devel] Add roll axis in view mode

2012-01-21 Thread Clément de l'Hamaide

Hi everybody,

I like to fly with the DHC6 but I had a problem about view. I think the problem
is the same in liner with large overhead.
A video is better than a long explication :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBGtuUVk600

The modified mice.xml is available here : http://clemaez.fr/flightgear/mice.xml
Maybe it will be added by default in FlightGear ?

Cheers,
Clément

Unfortunately the web server is currently hung on reboot and I wasn't
able to fix it as quick as expected,

Martin.

[Flightgear-devel] [OT] Riding the cannonball

2012-01-21 Thread Torsten Dreyer
This reminds me a bit on Münchhausen's ride on the cannonball:

This sounds very convincing to me - I'm in favour of this solution. And
we'd like to go that road further anyway :-)

Re: [Flightgear-devel] Some More Detailed Scenery

2012-01-21 Thread Tom P
Hi John,

Instead of creating a new server for high-end / more detailed sceneries,
would it be possible to create a branch on the current TerraSync server?
It could work as an "overlay" where a more detailed scenery tile takes the
place of a base / standard detail tile.

The TerraSync client could then be configured to fetch from the base /
standard branch, or the more detailed one.
And having branches also takes care of older FG versions.

Just a thought,

  Tom
