Re: [Flightgear-devel] Improved Scenery Data Question

2013-06-25 Thread John Holden
JJ:

The mirror would be great, but the scenery isn't finished - it's just the
underlying scenery data.

Plus, because it's 'better' scenery, the question of how do we distribute the
scenery once it is generated becomes an issue.

I know Martin's working on a potential solution, so I'll be patient.

Cheers
John

Hi John:

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on getting this data into the
system so users can start flying over it.

I maintain a mirror for flightgear.  (ftp://ftp.kingmont.com and
http://kingmont.com)

You might try contacting Curtis and see how you would go about putting some of
your stuff up on that site!  You would be welcome to use it as far as I'm
concerned  (I don't fool with it except to pay the bill! grin).

[Flightgear-devel] Improved Scenery Data Question

2013-06-22 Thread John Holden
Hey FlightGear developers,

I'm sitting on dozens of degrees of processed shapefiles just waiting to be
turned into improved FlightGear scenery. Some already have been worked through
Terragear, like Denver, Minneapolis and Miami, but this is a small amount of my
output at the moment. This is the same or better quality than the work I did on
the Pacific Northwest, but this instead extends throughout most of the western
United States, and I'm generating areas of scenery-to-be every day.

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on getting this data into the
system so users can start flying over it. Literally, some of these files have
just been sitting around on my hard drive for years, and I'm eager to
contribute again.

Thanks
John Holden

[Flightgear-devel] Some More Detailed Scenery

2011-12-27 Thread John Holden
I've now uploaded sceneries for Miami and Orlando in Florida.

I plan to start on Sacramento - right north of the default scenery area -
tomorrow.

Miami: http://www.stattosoftware.com/flightgear/miami.zip
Orlando: http://www.stattosoftware.com/flightgear/orlando.zip

This scenery works only with 2.5 or above.

Also, when downloading 2.5, I think it would be nice to give users the option
to download some of these more detailed scenery areas - not just the ones I've
generated, but some of the European (and Asian?) sceneries as well.

Cheers
John

Re: [Flightgear-devel] Logos and licensing

2011-02-27 Thread John Holden
This is the code section I've found so far, 1114(1)(a) is the most relevant:
http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode15/usc_sec_15_1114000-.html

I don't know much about this but it does appear the confusion, mistake, or
deception part at the end is the important part. I'll have to do more reading
but that is why I proposed a disclaimer saying we are not affiliated or
endorsed by anyone. I'll do some more reading later today to make sure this is
correct.
