2013-03-10 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
Update: the backports will only update it to FlightGear 2.6.0, since
that's the latest version available for any Ubuntu distro. Therefore,
I'm not planning on updating previous versions to 2.4.0.

Re: [Flightgear-devel] Ubuntu repositories

2013-03-07 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
The Ubuntu process/policy is that all software for a particular distro
(it looks like you might be 12.04 or 11.10) is frozen right before the
release, and only security updates and major new releases are updated.
However, it is possible to request a newer version to be submitted into
the main Ubuntu archives. The only thing here is that users will
manually have to enable adding unsupported software from Software
Sources and configure it to have backported software to be
automatically installed
(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports) I'll look into
updating FlightGear through Backports.

On another note, I have the latest FlightGear version available for
Oneiric and above in my PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~saiarcot895/+archive/flightgear). You'll have
to manually add the PPA (see the page for instructions).

Why do the ubuntu repositories only have flightgear 2.4 in them? Is there
way to update them to the newest version.
