Re: FLUXLIST: Mr T. versus Everything
I always wondered if Mr T didn't get that line "I Pity the Fool"--from the famous song of that name-- the phrase had become after it came out a popular expression The most famous version is by Bobby "Blue" Bland-- it's a great song and was huge hit--(in r and b market mainly) --dave baptiste

For reference, the song hit 46 on the Billboard pop chart in February 1961 (always handy to have a copy of the Billboard guide for points like these). Tangentially, I came upon a whole mess of old Bobby Bland '45's at a Salvation Army in Atlanta recently (though "I Pity the Fool" was not in the stack)...Of course "I Pity the Fool" could just be a common phrase in Southern Black English that white folks wouldn't recognize, engendering both the Bobby Bland song AND Mr. T's tagline. Maybe there's a Mr. T info. archive where we'd be able to find that out. Mandy Mastrovita

Ha-Ha! You can't go wrong with "T!" I just participated in a Tarot card-themed portfolio print exchange organized by some friends of mine where participants were randomly assigned certain cards from the tarot deck, and were requested to re-interpret these images as prints. Fortuntately, I ended up with "The Fool" In the traditional Rider tarot deck, the Fool appears with his dog. Naturally, my first instinct was to respond with Mr. T., who PITIES THE FOOL. And serendipitously, Mr. T.'s 1980's cartoon show spawned the merchandising of Mr. T's Halloween "Loot Bag," which includes a photo of T and his dog, both of whom are sporting the Mandinka/ mohawk!! Made a swell 11-color stencil (busted about a half-dozen X-acto blades!) based on this image, paid my tribute to T. and the tarot!! Still wish that Mr. T. breakfast cereal were still around so that I could pull a Pee-Wee Herman enjoy my Mr. T. breakfast cereal in the early AM. "Feeble 80's entertainment" is what made me happy as a teenager I don't feel it necessary to apologize for citing it as a pleasure, or as an influence in my life. though **I'm NOT saying that to antagonize anyone who does** Mandy Mastrovita (grad student), Dept. of Printmaking University of Georgia
FLUXLIST: Mr T. versus Everything
Hi all, Well maybe off-topic is better than no topic. For some reason I enjoy the feeble entertainment the 80s had to offer such as The 'A'-Team so when I found this site I was most impressed. Whatever happened to Mr. T anyway? http://www.sit.wisc.edu/%7Ekljense3/MrTvs.html BTW - This stuff is really funny in a childish way that will no doubt appeal more after a few ales. Maybe Eryk should do a Mr.T versus Tanks and Bubblegum.or we could do Mr.T versus Fluxus?? hmm cheers, Sol.
