2003-03-17 Thread Jochen . Maes
Hi all,

I had to check this error out, and a while ago Oleg has helped me for
trying to find it. But it didn't work back then...
Now the error you get when using xalan transformer : stylesheet requires
version, even when it set is solved very simple:

just set .setNamespaceAware(true);

and the problem is solved.

hope this might help users in the future. We might also set this in the FAQ
if necessary i can provide the text, just let me know.

I have been using FOP for more then a year and a half. Till now i needed to
put something on the first page but not on the others, and i solved this
with a variable. But as you all might know it's not really clean

So without having to define a new page-sequence, is there a way to find out
if it's the first page or not?
Remember i'm still using 0.20.3 --> upgrade to 0.20.5 will be for around

Re: R: multiple page-sequence

2003-03-10 Thread Jochen . Maes

Page Sequences need to be defined up front. If i'm not loosing my mind.

If this won't work, then i might help you with configuring the java on how
to rule out the out off memory exception.
I can create about 4000 documents in a half an hour without using more then
50 k (for smaller pdf files).

Do you do multiple documents in one run? Or is it one run for each
document.
Did you try to set up the memory use for java:

java -mx256m blah blah?

this can also help, and allows you a bigger minimum/maximum heapsize...

good luck

Hi,

thank you Jochen, I have found it,
but it is not enought for me.
If I would to generate a page-sequence for each page or for each 10 page,
have I to define explicitly each page-sequence? I don't know how many pages
I could have
for each document, it is variable.

Hi,

I have an out of memory problem and I saw that a solution is to make
multiple page-sequences.
I need a simple and clear example of how to implement multiple
page-sequences, it is better
a page sequence for each page, because I have a very big xml.

Thank you,
Emilia

Ok

Isabelle, There is a property in the IIS5.0 manager that lets you geve
access to certain actions (run scripts execute all etc).
Make sure this is set to run all...

Furthermore, i would strongly recommend using a servlet. It isn't difficult
to set up (nice examples) and it will make your life lots easier...

I know sometimes it is simply not possible but if it is, go for that.

I'm most willing to help in case you need java support

Are you running the process as a normal user, or as a superuser (i think

i had the problem when i used the application as a normal user, but as
computer administor i can work with FOP without any troubles...

If you're a normal user you might wan't to check if you can use the JVM

i hope this gives you more options and helps you out.

RE: Proposal

2002-10-01 Thread Jochen . Maes

ok here is the thing i'm busy with:

I have to make a overview for each currency i get in the xml...
this overview exists out one or multiple table-blocks.

but for each currency i must have a new page no matter how much is written
on the page.

First i thought of doing it with blockcontainers but i can't use them
because the tables can be longer then 1 page...

i don't know if i explain it correctly and if you would like me to be more
excessive i think it more interesting if you see the xml and the xsl.
because my english isn't that good :-]

thx for the response

Re: Big problem with printing from adobe Reader 4

2002-07-09 Thread Jochen . Maes

i put the pdf files in the printerqueue, then i rip it completely...

i don't open it with adobe because adobe isn't installed on the unix
machine...

it doest it all by itself...

i'll try to scan a page in how it came out with embedded fonts... and send
it to you ok?

now i'm converting all the fonts to helvetica (what works good and looks a
bit like arial...)

the big difference is the size of the pdf ,now they are 13 kb, and with the
embedded fonts they were about 100 kb :D so there is something good about
it...

Welcome to my heaven...

Seriously I brought up this problem some months ago (still no viable
solution),
the problem is your pictures.
Those printer RIPs dont accept the XObject image type, embedded fonts are
no problem.

The only solution so far is to use Acrobat Readers -toPDF switch
(commandline)
and then run the the resulting PS-file through distiller, then it will
print.
Certainly not a good solution but the only one Ive come up with so far.

If you get your pdf's with images printed on thoose BIG printers please
tell
me.

Claes

Afterinstalling the fonts on the Linux box and NOT embedding the font,
itprinted correctly. The PDF would look just fine with the embedded

For once Good news and a thank you

2002-06-12 Thread Jochen . Maes

Hi guyz...

some of you might remember i was making an application that could generate
14000 pdf's (each around 120Kb) as a fast as possible for my company...
This is an application completely dynamic they can just send a new layout
and change some properties files and the application makes the pdf , ini
file etc...

This was my first big project here... and guess what?

It took 2 hours and 23 minutes to generate the pdf's and only 105 didn't
make it (exceptions on illegal characters --> éèà etc... in Arial)

so this is a succes and all thanks to FOP...

so i would like to thank this community and all the people working hard
making it work...
I will still stick around to help where i can and to imporve my
application...

now let somebody say FOP is slow... :D i can prove it isn't...

greetings

and thank you all...

Probably something wrong with font metrics path or embed path, check these
pathes in userconfig.xml.

2002-06-11 Thread Jochen . Maes

hi guyz/gurlz i'm back :D

i have an error, i've been searchin the marc.theaimsgroup.com archive for
the solution, but can't really find it...
i know it can be solved...

anyway, i get the error:
java.xml.transform.TransformerConfigurationException: stylesheet requires
attribute: version...

of course it is there, but still i get the error, i maved the version tag
in the attributes before and after each of the other attributes... but
still same error...

I use the xalan and the xerces (but it's the xalan that gives an error)

i had that error once but it resolved itself...

now on my development enviroment i don't have the error but i use the same
jars, same xsl's etc...

question keep-together

2002-02-26 Thread Jochen . Maes

I have been away for a while, and haven't been able to read all the mails
from the mailinglist. Since my return i answered some questions, but not to
much...

therefore this might been said before, but that i missed it.

I saw there is a new release of FOP (fop-0.20.3rc2-src.tar.gz). I'm using
the release fop-0.20.3rc-src.tar.gz now.

Is in this new release the "keep-together.within-page" property implemented
(the implimented.html doesn't say so, but i frankly don't know if it's
updated).
if it is implemented, you guyz wan't me to update the html-docs and send
them to you? (less work for you)
and if you would like more help, you can allways keep sending me the what's
implemented and what not's and i'll update the html anyway and send it to
you...

thanks

yes use instead off border-style and border-width
"border-bottom/top/right/left-style" and border-bottom/top/right/left-width

then it should work

it worked but not the way i thought (lol)
i think each space is used as a linebreak (nicxe view though :-]) and some
characters aren't correct (like a "°" in stead off an "ë").

do you know where i can find a tutorial for that (making

That was actually the way it was done about a year ago. Personally, I
don't think it will help performance a lot. There are more
performance-critical parts in FOP. Or did you do any measurements that
lead you to this conclusion.

Anyway, if you really want to create classes for your fonts, have a look
at build.xml and the codegen folder which contains XSLTs that convert
XML font metric files to Java classes. Then you need to add these
classes in org.apache.fop.render.pdf.FontSetup.java.

Cheers,
Jeremias Märki

making classes off your fonts...

2002-01-31 Thread Jochen . Maes

Hi guys

got a question. when i use FOP i use it with different fonts then allready
specified... and loading those fonts into the java takes some time
now i want to make that FOP more performant... Is there a way to make
classes (like some allready exist) off them fonts so that the rendering
takes less time
if there isn't a way supplied, can i adapt them classes (or java's) to
whatever font i want?

first i did it the way you describe (it worked great). But after a bit
thinking i found that the code for the machine is not really a part of the

So i used iText (thanks to dref) to read the document made by FOP and then
insert some things. (like the code and a watermark)

So thank all off you who helped me...

If you want to draw horizontal or vertical lines,
you can add flat block-containers inside appropriate
static-content element :

Barcode-line on a page....

2002-01-29 Thread Jochen . Maes

i render a pdf with FOP.
and i'm extremely happy with it.
But, i need to draw a line in the leftmargin off the page (for a machine
how puts the letters in a envelope).
But it's a fixed location and a fixed length.

Now i need to be able to say (but then in FOP language)
print a line here: 14.2(x from), 220(y from), 51(x to), 220(y to) the line
must be 1 pt thick or 2 points whatever...

now how do i do that?

Please (or we can do that or the whole FOP project goes down the drain.)

thank you very much for your help...

adding fonts...

2002-01-25 Thread Jochen . Maes

I want to add fonts (ttf) so i can render them to pdf.
i allready tried a lot and this is my last hope :-]

I made the xml frile from the ttf with the TTFReader
then i added the XML file in the codegen folder. (together with the ttf
file)

in the userconfig.xml i added this for the arial font:

the font is there and the .XML file is in de src/codegen (where the
Build.bat go gets his stuff)

I'm new at this and i don't have a clue howcome it doesn't add to the Jar
file... when i build it.

and if the font name is Arial then why doesn't it show when rendering a
 test tekst

i made whole pages and letters with fop and really like it
but it's the first time i need to import new fonts...

Thx for your help...
