This could be due to a number of problems (IE, invalid xml etc.) but the 
servlet does work.

I had the same problem.

I tihnk, the problem is in your Web Browser.
My solution is to save PDF file in Temporary directory
and then redirect client to that PDF file.

Than IE6 opens PDF file correctly.
