[fossil-users] Translation

2011-12-21 Thread BohwaZ

I'm wondering if there is way to translate the Fossil web interface?

Is it planned? That would be nice for us, non-english speaking users.

I disagree.

Translation to several languages would mean bloat. That might be okay
for an already bloated project like a compiler suite (though I disagree
with their localization as well) but not for a tool which has
self-containment and low footprint as one of its top selling points.

Possibly the way to go is to create a separate (CGI?) application that
would implement a rich webserver around fossil (by hooking it via
JSON API if I understood its intent correctly). Such a project would
also be a good point to channel the energy of the folks admiring
the rich client paradigm with flashy and shiny stuff in the UI.

Another issue with translated stuff is that often one needs to
reverse-translate some bits of the interface back to English to
actually understand what the original term stood for.

P.S.
Sure, if someone invents a way to make this stuff optional (say, fossil
would try to look up translated resources in some well-known place at
startup or such resources would have a possibility to be embedded into
the binary with this feature turned off for default and official
builds) then that would be OK, of course.
