[Foundation-l] Office hours starting in 30 minutes

2009-11-12 Thread Cary Bass

Hash: SHA1

Just a quick reminder about today's office hours with Naoko Komura and
the usability team (from 1700 to 1800 UTC).

If you do not have an IRC client, there are two ways you can come chat
using a web browser: First is using the Wikizine chat gateway at
http://chatwikizine.memebot.com/cgi-bin/cgiirc/irc.cgi. Type a
nickname, select irc.freenode.net from the top menu and
#wikimedia-office from the following menu, then login to join.

Also, you can access Freenode by going to http://webchat.freenode.net/,
typing in the nickname of your choice and choosing wikimedia-office as
the channel. You may be prompted to click through a security warning.
It should be all right.

Re: [Foundation-l] strategic planning office hours today

2009-11-12 Thread Alexandr Romanov
I appreciate that the Wikipedia Office is based in the US, and that the
staff there have time constraints. However, I feel it is a shame that
meetings like this take place at hours which are unlikely to attract users
from Europe (UTC to UTC+5) and Africa (UTC-1 to UTC+4).

Obviously, with timezones varying so greatly throughout the world we will
never be able to satisfy everyone, and I realise that not all meetings are
held at this time (and yes, I have missed the other recent meetings which
were at a better time for me (UTC) here in Morocco), but I just wanted to
highlight that 4am for people based in UK/Ireland/Western Africa, 5am in
Western Europe, and 6am Central Europe is not conducive for our
participation.

Have meetings been tried at 9am West Coast Pacific time (I presume so)?
Whilst this may present other problems (people being at work), it might
avoid the problems of people being fast asleep.

Just my musings on trying to encourage participation from a wider
international base.

Re: [Foundation-l] strategic planning office hours today

2009-11-12 Thread Philippe Beaudette
Hi Alexandr: the strategic planning office hours alternate times
every week; some weeks it's at 20:00UTC, and the next at 04:00 UTC.

I know it's not perfect, but hopefully it's a step in the right
direction. The current schedule can always be found at
http://strategy.wikimedia.org/wiki/IRC

Hoi,
Many of the messages that have to do with the fundraiser can be translated
at translatewiki.net.

PS the good news is that these messages become available once a day on all
the WMF projects :)
Thanks,

The fundraising banners went live yesterday, but in spite of efforts
to test them, there were serious issues with their basic functionality
and IE6 and IE7. My apologies; it's an inexcusable screw-up on our
part, and we won't go live again until we've resolved this. (We're
looking into the feedback on the messaging/style of the banners as
well, and have been from the beginning.)
