RE: Protecting Environments

2001-09-24 Thread Schweda, Alfons

Stefano,

I think your intention is not only to protect Environments but to
enable/disable omsets.
Take a look at the following extract of an Env-Configuration:

dmcmd chng_env
dmcmd protect value 2
dmcmd disable omsets

== $DMNAME  enable omsets
== $DMNAME  unprotect value 2
== $DMNAME  enable omsets
== $DMNAME  unprotect value 2

I hope this will help to solve your problem

51D's & external hard disks

2001-09-24 Thread Nic Glenister

G'day list,

Has anyone had any success in using 51D's with 4.2Gb external SCSI system
disks? Rumour has it, it's supposed to be possible - according to B0400PT
anyway.

I've Day Zeroed it, but I can't get it to boot. And yes, I have changed the
"altdisk" (originally "raid") device label. It starts going through the
boot process from the external hard disk, but continually panic dumps.

Cheers,

Nic

RE: Protecting Environments

2001-09-24 Thread Johnson, Alex (Foxboro)

Yes.

If you would like to tie the security to the DM/FV name.

First, dedicate a DM/FV to the PC using the file
/usr/fox/customer/hi/dmcfg. This will ensure that the DM/FV name that is to
be protected is always sent to the PC/X-Term.

Assume that the unprotected DM/FV has the name 1AW51C and the
protected DM/FV is PCXTRM.

Add a version of these lines to your environment

== $DMNAME PCXTRM dmcmd protect all
== $DMNAME PCXTRM dmcmd disable omsets

== $DMNAME 1AW51C dmcmd unprotect all
== $DMNAME 1AW51C dmcmd enable omsets

When the environment is invoked it will check the DM name and take
the specified actions.

If you want to tie security to the X-Terminal's name. Try:

== $DM_DISPLAY PCXTRM:0.0 dmcmd protect all
== $DM_DISPLAY PCXTRM:0.0 dmcmd disable omsets

== $DM_DISPLAY 1AW51C:0.0 dmcmd unprotect all
== $DM_DISPLAY 1AW51C:0.0 dmcmd enable omsets

You'll need 1AW51C:0.1 if the machine is dual headed.

I may have the syntax wrong on the protect command, but you can check that.

RE: Screen Print

2001-09-24 Thread Brian Bates

Kevin.
 If you would rather do your screen dump from the command prompt (or in a
script), try /usr/openwin/bin/xwd -root -out foo.xwd. This will create a
file of the root window of the AW/WP that you are logged into named
foo.xwd.
If you need the image file in a different format, try
/opt/windu/bin/convert foo.xwd foo.gif. This will create a gif file of your
screendump (convert can also make bmp, jpeg, pdf, ps, and dozens of other
formats).
If you do not have convert you can get a free download from Image Magic
http://www.imagemagick.org.

RE: 51D's & external hard disks

2001-09-24 Thread Deen, Ron

To my knowledge, the D box only supports RAID solutions as an external SCSI
drive configuration.
The System Administration Guide (B0193ND, Rev J) makes note of the external
SCSI drives will be supported in future releases. Since the guide was
provided with the 6.3 base level software it is probably not supported until
now.

We tried your setup in the lab today with similar results: boot starts ok
but after a short while "panic and reboot". There is a way to get it working
but that is not supported. Configuration will be lost with new installs.
The B0400PT document is ...ahum... a bit confusing (?)

RE: upload timeout errors

2001-09-24 Thread Airhart, Chad M.

We have had this same problem for over 2 years now. Various field service
people and TAC have looked at it and been unable to determine the root of
the problem. We have upgraded our RAM, upgraded our hard drives all to no
avail. So far Foxboro has been little to no help in resolving the problem.
It has been extremely frustrating.

RE: Screen Print

2001-09-24 Thread Mark Dumond

We use the fashionable freeware/shareware program called "xv".
It is a great X-Window snapshot and image editing program.
This program allows you to capture an X-window, and save it in almost any
image format.

You can install the package as follows (assuming Solaris 2.5):
1. Download from:
ftp://ftp.sunfreeware.com/pub/freeware/sparc/2.5/xv-3.10.gz  (or mirror
sites)
2. gunzip xv-3.10.gz
   A. If gunzip is not installed, download from:
ftp://ftp.sunfreeware.com/pub/freeware/sparc/2.5/gzip-1.3-sol25-sparc-local
   B. pkgadd -d gzip-1
3. pkgadd -d xv-3.10

To execute the program:
1. cd /opt/JBxv/bin
2. xv
3. Choose the "Grab" button
4. Click on any X-window to capture it (do not click on the title bar)
5. Save, then choose image format

I recommend reading Chris's note as it gives a detailed procedure. Kevin
asked about the 50-series, but Chris also gave instructions for the AW70.

You can use snapshot in ~/openwin/bin. It has a few
bugs. I previously sent out a procedure. Anyone have
that long email I sent? Or try searching the list
server archive for snapshot.

RE: upload timeout errors

2001-09-24 Thread Bruley, Peter

Gentlemen:

I have seen this many times. I believe this happens when CP's are
too loaded. Usually happens on older equipment (ie/ CP10's) but I have seen
it on newer processors that are over worked. (ie/ you are seeing OM & BPC
overruns).

Here are two things to try:

1) Upload 1 compound at a time (either from within ICC or by creating
an ICC driver-task script).
2) Wait for the process to be shutdown (CP's are less worked and
network traffic is lower) Not only will you get your upload but this
actually has an added bonus as the operator settable parameters are in a
state where the plant has been "shut-down properly". Thus if you ever have
to do a loadall to the CP the settable parameters are in a quiescent state
and you don't have valves/dampers/etc jumping to some "normal operating
position"

Peace

Peter
