Remote Backups of AW70

2001-09-04 Thread SReames

If anyone is doing this, I would like to get the nitty gritty details of
doing this. My understanding is that the latest version of Ghost should
make this doable.

Thanks, Sam

Remote Backups of AW70

2001-09-06 Thread Weiss, Andreas

Hi,

remote Backup of NT-machines is possible.

Some companies offer solutions

I have found only a german description but give the saler a chance.
http://www.fujitsu-siemens.com/computer/storage/storage_de/software/hsms.htm

http://www.fujitsu-siemens.com/computer/storage/datenblaetter/hsms.zip

They support an online backup of Informix databases.

The price??? I think high.

I've got an information from a company which delivers an "low cost" solution
with nearly the same functionality, but the letter is up and away.

Andreas

The information I am getting from our IS dept. it that they use Ghost now
and it does support ntfs. However, the solution I want is scheduled
unattended backups of an active I/A NT workstation across a secondary
network. I have also been pointed toward Seagate BackupExec and Ultraback.
>From the responses I've seen so far, no one is doing this already?

I'm not really sure but I thought I read that Ghost 7.0 (Enterprise
Edition) can Ghost to a FAT32 partition. This would make the space to store
a bit larger.

Ron,

I use Norton Ghost to backup my hard drives. It does not support NTFS
and only works for FAT16/32. It also requires that the disk is not in
use, meaning that none of the files are in use, which is usually not the
case in a running machine.

I was just checking my Norton installation and ran the live update. It
returned that I'm up to date.
My configuration is C:FAT32, D:FAT32, E:NTFS. The reason for E being
NTFS is the size of 60GB. I actually use Ghost primarily for C Drives,
but the E drive does not show in Ghost as a read or writable partition.
If Ghost would support plain NTFS drives, I would use it for C as well.
Thanks for the information!

RE: Remote Backups of AW70

2001-09-05 Thread Deen, Ron

It is possible to have a 70 Series box to backup to a remote server.
In Norton terms we are talking about the "Multicast" solution.
What is required:
A Windows (95/98/ME/NT/2000) "server" which runs the "Multicast server"
and (that's what we use) a boot diskette that has the drivers for the NIC
you intend to use and the Norton Ghost program (a DOS utility).

I don't expect this to work unattended because you must specify a "session
name" on the Multicast server.
The Multicast Client diskette can be created using the Norton Ghost
Multicast Wizzard. Explains itself I think.

We use this approach with our notebooks when we go to site. We can make a
backup to a large NTFS partition on the notebook, from the 70 Series
machine. Work great.
We have made a special DOS diskette where we can select the various commom
NIC's we use in the I/A series system.

Maybe anybody else has some bright ideas/experience with this matter?

Regards

Ron Deen

I envision installing something like ghost on my server that is connected
to all of my 70 boxes with secondary NIC's. Then having the server to
automatically backup each remote box triggered by a scheduler. Basically
hands-off automatic backups of remote boxes by the server.

What do you mean with "remote backups"?

Take control of the remote 70 series station and make a backup (local or
remote)
or
Take local control of the 70 series station and make the backup to remote
location (a server for example)?

One of my coworkers just backed up a 70 series system using a download of
Veritas Backup Exec ver 8.6. He recommends using the Take2 feature of Roxio
(nee Adaptec) Easy CD Writer software for $100 and a Microsolutions Backpack
Triple Play CD writer for $250. The backup can span CDs. Triple play gives
you parallel, USB, and PC card interfaces.

Hi,

remote Backup of NT-machines is possible.

Some companies offer solutions

I have found only a german description but give the saler a chance.
http://www.fujitsu-siemens.com/computer/storage/storage_de/software/hsms.htm

http://www.fujitsu-siemens.com/computer/storage/datenblaetter/hsms.zip

They support an online backup of Informix databases.

The price??? I think high.

I've got an information from a company which delivers an "low cost" solution
with nearly the same functionality, but the letter is up and away.

I'm not really sure but I thought I read that Ghost 7.0 (Enterprise

a bit larger.
