RE: Adobe Unveils Technical Communication Suite

2007-10-01 Thread Michael O'Neill
Vivek Jain @ Adobe discusses single-sourcing with RoboHelp and
FrameMaker on the Adobe Technical Communication blog:

http://blogs.adobe.com/techcomm/

At the same time, you manage the content from FrameMaker files in a set
of special folders, providing you the flexibility of continuously
updating the content as you edit the files in FrameMaker.

To make the workflow smoother, RoboHelp provides a visual indicator of
whether the content in RoboHelp is out of synchronization with
FrameMaker content or not.

This is looking interesting. Anyone know of a good listserv devoted to
discussing RoboHelp?

RoboHelp is a full featured HAT with printed output (PDF)
support. Why not just import my legacy Frame documents into
RoboHelp, and then use RoboHelp as my authoring environment?

On the one hand, you complain about FrameMaker's many limitations

for RoboHelp's printed output. Are you kidding?

It sounds like you really _don't_ know what you're looking for -- you

FrameMaker 7.2 crashing

2007-10-01 Thread Beierle, Cecily
I am working on a file where I am converting the existing paragraph formats
to new formats from a template, and replacing screen capture figures that are
in tables with imported graphics. I am converting the tables to paragraphs so
I can delete the replaced information carefully and keep the original figure
title and any markers established on that paragraph.

Suddenly, FrameMaker is crashing, without any warning. Usually, when FM
crashes, I get some message that it encountered a serious problem and must
close. And, after the application closes, a recover file is created. Not in
this case. The application makes a gong sound and it's gone.

I noticed that when I change the paragraph that holds the figure table is on
the top of the page to another paragraph format, that seems to be when the
crash happens, or it happens when I try to convert that figure table to
paragraphs.

I have rebooted, and that doesn't seem to help.

I have saved the file as .mif and back as .fm, but that didn't change
anything.

I am working with FrameMaker 7.2, p.158, in Windows XP, service pack 2.

Thanks in advance!

Request for strong FM8 speaker for Nov NY Metro STC chapter

2007-10-01 Thread John Posada
Hi, guys...I'm soliciting for a speaker really strong on FM8 (and RH6 wouldn't
hurt) to address the NY Metro STC chapter. The date would be dinner meeting
Thur Nov 29th. We get from 30 to 50 people at a meeting.

Speaker should be local to NY Metro as there is no payment budgeted (dinner is
included and maybe we can throw in a $50 Amex gift card), but I'll explain a
twist where you'll be "exposed" to Adobe at a national level (details supplied
to serious contender).

Please contact me off-list.
