'message URL' hyperlinks

2008-04-01 Thread Shmuel Wolfson
Speaking of hyperlinks, I have a:

message URL http://

And when I click on it, it does not open a web browser. Basically, it's
a dead link.

Any ideas?

Shmuel Wolfson

'message URL' hyperlinks

2008-04-01 Thread Art Campbell
When you click on it in Frame or in output, like in a generated PDF or
generated HTML?

If you are testing in Frame, you are doing Ctrl-Alt-Click, right?
Also, on my current underpowered box, it's taking 6-8 seconds to come
up...

Sure it's a hypertext link? ;-) FrameMaker has a foxy way of changing this link
type as you enter them when you're not looking.

Moving from Frame 7.1 and Webworks to Adobe Technical Communication Suite

2008-04-01 Thread kimwri...@comcast.net
My doc team currently uses Frame 7.1, Acrobat 7.0 Standard, and WebWorks
ePublisher Pro 9.1 to generate our printed docs and online help. Now we are
looking at the Adobe Technical Communication Suite to do it all. However we
have some concerns about moving everyone over and the impact it could have on
our existing docs, templates, and workflow.

Has anyone had a similar situation and switched to ATCS?

What issues did you encounter?

Can Frame 7.1 and ATCS live together on the same computer?

Does a ATCS install mess up WebWorks ePublisher Pro 9.1?

Can you use source files from Frame 8 in ePublisher Pro 9.1?

Moving from Frame 7.1 and Webworks to Adobe Technical Communication Suite

2008-04-01 Thread Rene Stephenson
I can't answer *all* of your questions, but I know someone who can. ;-)

ATCS includes RoboHelp, and the current version of RH provides seamless
integration from FM source, skipping the RTF step that used to be required.
Additionally, you can set the new RH to recognize TopicAlias markers as the
context-sensitive links. Although the new RH doesn't import the ePub stationery
or WWP templates, it does provide the same type of mapping directly between FM
formats and RH formats, so I don't think it's going to be as big of a deal as
moving from WWP Pro to ePub would be. However, we don't have a lot of custom
macros in our WWP Pro templates, either.

We're migrating from Frame 7.2 w/ WWP Pro 2003 and Acrobat 7.0 Pro to the ATCS.
I have been talking with someone at Adobe (an "ATCS Evangelist") about all the
in's and out's of moving. The main reason we're moving is that ePublisher is
cost-prohibitive to upgrade, and RH now does what ePub (and formerly WWP Pro)
did, but the output to Adobe AIR format with the integrated support for
interactive animated 3D drawings and video will truly take our deliverables to
the next level for our audience. Plus, the $999 for the whole ATCS deal is,
well, irresistible...

Default browser for 'message URL' hyperlinks: SOLVED

2008-04-01 Thread Steve Rickaby
I have the solution for my posting below, although I don't understand it.

For hyperlinks of the form 'message URL http://', FrameMaker correctly
opens the default browser. However, for hyperlinks that omit the protocol
field, i.e. 'message URL ', for example 'message URL www.microsoft.com',
it opens any version of Netscape that it can find.

Huh?

installing Frame 8

2008-04-01 Thread Dave Reynolds
Hi Folks

I'm the first in our team who will install Frame 8 - so I'm the lucky
guinea pig who will be testing our templates to see how they behave in
the new version.

Although I've been keeping a record of bugs and problems reported on the
list, I can't find anything about the actual installation (and
FrameUsers is down at the moment).

So, are there any problems or gotchas I should be aware of before I
install Frame 8? I currently have Frame 6 and Acrobat 7 Pro installed.
Will Frame 8 try to install a version of Acrobat (as happened with
previous versions), and if so, can I cancel that so I don't lose my
already installed Acrobat?

Any advice much appreciated.

Cheers

Dave
