Irgnore missing files on open not possible
Dear all, I have a very strange situation with my two installations FM 8.0.2 en on Windows XP SP2 with all autmatic update: A - on the workstation everything works as expected B - on the laptop when opening a file whose pictures can not be found, and activating "ignore this/all missing files" nothing happens. I can only close the dialog and go back to the workstation to handle this file. I have not found any difference in the installed files. On both machines FM is installed in H:\Adobe\framemaker.8en. To be sure that both are same, i have copied the WS files to the laptop => no pos. effect. Of course I have deleted the Document&Setting entries before starting FM to build them anew. There may be a difference in the registry however - have not checked this yet. Does anyone have a clue where this behaviour may come from? Alan and Jeremy were not speaking metaphorically, functionally, allegorically, etc. about "reply-to-all" in the list. What they were doing was misunderstanding my explanation of how I use my email client for only the framers list and none other: 1I hit the Reply-to-All button to get all the addresses in the To and C.c. fields. 2I delete the fields I don't want, usually all of them except the list address. 3I send the email. So perhaps Alan and Jeremy were speaking operationally and figuratively. Now if they had been speaking behaviourally, since every other list I subscribe to -- dozens of them (yes, I don't have a life) -- returns a Reply to the list, thus catering for the habitual behaviour of the millions of list users in the known multiverse who have become used to this and expect it. Of course, there is always someone who will argue for the "technically" correct way of doing things rather than what meets people's expectations. Just so everyone on this list has an idea of what one alternative method of posting to a list looks like, I've included the principle headers from another list to which I subscribe. Mind you, my subscription is set up to receive "digests" several times daily rather than individual postings as they are sent to the list server. A digest contains a collection of postings, concatenated down the page. A typical digest will contain from 2 to 12 postings, each basically an email message sent by the posting member. I do not recommend using digests; I just include the header information to show what the Reply-To: and From: lines look like. One possibly major disadvantage of this method of posting is the latency involved. That is, a posting may not appear for several hours, whereas direct email may be quickerperhaps near instantaneous. Frame and Distiller Crash Update
This may be a rhetorical question, but you're using the same settings that you used for the book for the individual files, correct? Unless you're printing them from within the book (print selected files), each component is using its own printer/PDF settings and they're likely to be the same ones that were causing a problem with the book So the problem is getting the same, working settings in place as your default setup. Use of TemplateMapper for converting from Word?
Regarding the issue of using TemplateMapper to convert from word, Caroline Tabach wrote: To try and make this more useful, Save the Word document as rtf Then open the RTF file in FrameMaker. Now all of your styles are preserved. Obviously this might not solve your other issue, but does help with the paragraph styles. I found that I lost more by importing from RTF. There was still no differentiation between Word styles. But graphics were no longer in anchored frames and, although references can in very funny by importing the word doc, at least they were working references. But this was lost when importing the RTF. Then I dug out an old message from Fred Ridder, I think, who suggested using word macros to help map the styles. This led to my discovery that the non-differentiation between styles was actually an issue with the Word template being used. An older template version did convert better with TemplateMapper because it differentiated more between styles. So the current word template can be prepped for conversion to Frame by macros. -Original Message- From: framers-boun...@lists.frameusers.com [mailto:framers-bounces at lists.frameusers.com] On Behalf Of David Kuhn Sent: Thursday, May 15, 2008 6:09 PM To: framers at lists.frameusers.com Subject: Use of TemplateMapper for converting from Word? When I first heard of TemplateMapper, I wondered if this could be used to help convert from Word to FrameMaker. Then I saw some postings on the list that confirmed that some people do use it for this. Now that I have TemplateMapper, I cannot figure out how it is helpful for this. If you Import a Word document, selecting Copy into Document, then all the paragraph tags (except headings and captions) become *BodyText with no distinction between bullets or numbers, for example. Other issues: * It doesn't look like the TemplateMapper can help with the cross-references because, for instance, there's no way to distinguish between the cross-reference types. * Because our notes are in tables, it doesn't look like there is any way around redoing them all manually. * It doesn't actually convert the tables. I need to go over them with TableCleaner. Frame and Distiller Crash Update
First, thanks to Art for their suggested fixes to my problem (select/deselect the Generate Tagged PDF setting and delete fntcache.dat file). Now on to part II of my problem!! Frame and distiller no longer crash when I generate a single PDF of the entire book, but when I generate individual PDFs, both applications crash. I've tried to isolate a specific file, but the crash doesn't happen on the same file each time. Any suggestions? Thanks! --Ben -Original Message- From: framers-boun...@lists.frameusers.com [mailto:framers-bounces at lists.frameusers.com] On Behalf Of Anderson, Ben Sent: Friday, May 16, 2008 10:41 AM To: Framers at frameusers.com Subject: Frame and Distiller Crash Frame Gang, I'm in the process of testing the evaluation copy of Technical Communication Suite and have run into a couple of crashes. I've got a book (created in Frame 7.2) that I've opened in Frame 8.0 (p273) and tried to convert to PDF. I can get the book to update just fine, but when I "save as PDF", Frame crashes. I've also printed the book to postscript and then tried to distill the files to PDF, but then distiller crashes. I have all of the system requirements (i.e., disk space, RAM, etc.), so I don't think that's an issue, but I'm not positive. Also, I'm using the standard Adobe PDF printer that comes with the Tech Comm Suite install. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Re: Frame and Distiller Crash Update
RE: Use of TemplateMapper for converting from Word?
-Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of David Kuhn Sent: Thursday, May 15, 2008 6:09 PM To: framers@lists.frameusers.com Subject: Use of TemplateMapper for converting from Word?
