RE: The Mystery Wrap
Thank you all for the help. -Original Message- From: Combs, Richard [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, June 20, 2008 9:37 AM To: Dodd, Frank J; Framer's List Subject: RE: The Mystery Wrap Dodd, Frank J wrote: When converting a framemaker document to an adobe PDF I suddenly get sentences that wrap onto the next line. The only item I can attribute this to is the fact that adobe converts all the Helvetica fonts in my FM file to Times new roman Does anybody have any idea : Why the change to another font? Because you don't have the Helvetica fonts. You could buy them -- adobe.com is one source. Why the mystery wrap? It's not a mystery. Different fonts have different font metrics. You can't replace Helvetica with Times New Roman (FM's default replacement for missing fonts) without your whole document reformatting. How to change all the fonts in every style to Arial in one fell swoop? Wouldn't it be better to buy the fonts that the document was intended to use? If you insist on making everything Arial: 1. Open Paragraph Designer and select the Default Font tab. 2. Select Commands Set Window to As Is. 3. Set Family to Arial. 4. Select Commands Global Update Options. 5. In the dialog box, select Default Font Properties Only and All Paragraphs and Catalog Entries, and then click Update. HTH! Richard Richard G. Sort order of entries in an index
A long time ago, in a valley far, far away, I know I did this, but I don't remember how! Under the letter C in my index, under the IndexLev1 entry of changing, I want the first entry to be changing:see also modifying (and not a page number) and I can't for the life of me remember how to format the index marker for this. Right now, I have $nopagechanging:see also modifyingaaa, but I am getting the entry sorted as is. The attempt to force it to the top by using aaa is not working, but I swear I did this before, but using zzz to get an entry to the bottom of a list at all times. Help! Put the sort order info in square brackets (e.g. [aaa] ) not angle brackets: $nopagechanging:see also modifying[aaa] On Tuesday, June 24, 2008 18:04, Tammy Van Boening wrote: | A long time ago, in a valley far, far away, I know I did this, but I | don't remember how! Overrides
As always, this list is great. Thanks to all who responded with interesting explanations and suggestions. I also found that extraneous spaces before pilcrows caused mischief in the generated TOC and other paging issues. But now I actually have a way to easily get rid of those faux override asterisks: when the document is finished, import formats from current (doc). All those misleading little asterisks disappear.
