.notdef is part of a font definition. The fact that this is showing
up as an undefined PostScript operator would lead me to believe that
your PostScript file is either incomplete or corrupted. I've seen a
similar problem occur if one runs out of disk space while the PostScript
file is being written or if one starts to distill a file while it is still
being written. I'd first look at available disk space and if necessary,
clean up any junk files. Regardless, I would try recreating the PostScript
file and redistilling.

2008-10-07 Thread Alan Litchfield
It is quite possible that you have either a link/cross reference or
graphic causing the problem.

The file should fail on the page where the error is. In the output log
it shows what pages were successfully completed, so the failure should
be on the following page. Start there by removing graphics and running
the file till you get a success.

Help with Distiller

2008-10-07 Thread James Monaco
Framers,

I am trying to distill a .ps file created with FM7 (Mac) using
Distiller 6.0.2.

I am getting the following error:

%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: .notdef ]%%
Stack:
-dict-
/Private
-dict-
-dict-
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%

I've had no trouble distilling this file before.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

moving & preserving links between chapters in a book

2008-10-07 Thread Lin Sims
I saved one of my chapters that included a cross-reference to a
different chapter as a MIF. Examination showed that cross-chapter
references includes the absolute path to the linked file. If the
directory structure isn't exactly the same in both places, the link
won't work.

You can either recreate all the cross-chapter links or you can use
Bruce Foster's Archiver plugin. It will bundle all the files
(including graphics) in a book and save it wherever you want, and it
updates the links in the process. Well worth the $25.

moving & preserving links between chapters in a book

2008-10-07 Thread James Dyson
Hi all. I'm using Framemaker 8 and we just discovered a problem caused
when we move our books to different network locations. If we move from
point A to point B, the book's links to chapters (i.e. index) and the
links to different places within the same chapter work just fine. What
doesn't work is the links from one chapter to another. Is there a
solution? There very well may be a better way to do this, but here's how
we move our books: We do a "save as" command for each chapter to the new
location. We then create a book from scratch in that location (and
update the book). I'm stumped.
