redirecting all cross-ref'ed fm fm files to the "home" folder

2009-01-31 Thread Wei Jiang (PT_ORG)
Hello Everyone,

I am now translating a book comprised of cross-referenced FM files which
were originally scattered in different locations of the client's hard disk.
He had sent me the package in a "flat" zip file, ie, without the original
tree structure. My question is, is there a quick way to update all the
"broken" cross-ref links with all the files in one single folder?

TIA!

Disappearing text using Save As to PDF

2009-01-31 Thread John Roesler
All,

Jessica Nealon made this post in 2006:

"When I use Save As to PDF my books, whole chunks of text disappear in
the

PDF file. It appears to be totally random. For instance, one table will

have several blank rows blank followed by competed rows."

http://lists.frameusers.com/pipermail/framers/2006-October/004916.html

I am also using Frame 7.2, and I wonder if anyone else knows about this
problem and about any bugfixes.

My experience is that FrameMaker apparently puts the text in table cells
behind the table when saving as a PDF. When the table has shading, this
makes the text disappear entirely. Printing straight to the printer
works fine.

I have not found anything helpful on the Internet in general, which
strikes me as strange. Also, I'm sure this is unrelated to the previous
problem, but it does exacerbate the situation: Printing to my Acrobat
PDF "printer" fails for an unspecified reason and printing to a
PostScript file produces this cryptic error, which means I have
absolutely no way of making a pdf out of my document.

Start Time: Thursday, January 29, 2009 at 16:18 PM

Source: blahblahblah.ps

Destination: blahblahblah.pdf

Adobe PDF Settings: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Adobe
PDF 6.0\Settings\Standard.joboptions

%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: !R!SEM6;EXIT;_ ]%%

%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%

%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%

Distill Time: 0 seconds (00:00:00)

 End of Job

Thoughts?

Thanks,

John Roesler

Re: Networking in the NYMetro area.

2009-01-31 Thread bryan johnson
John,

If I may suggest, you may want to join Linkedin and start a local NY metro
group. It's a great way to network and the individual groups can include
calendars and such to help facilitate more focused, in person, networking.

Doubt I'd be of much help to you, as I'm in Ohio, but i'd be happy to include
you in my network.

>>> John Posada  1/29/2009 3:04 PM >>>
Hi, guys...hope this isn't out of line for this list, but at times
like these when everyone says network, network, netwiork, I'd like to
reach out to the writers in the NY metro area.

Some of us are out of work and looking, and some of you are working
and trying to stay that way. I'd like to start a "club" that will
meet in person for the purpose of finding/keeping/referring jobs.
Maybe we can compare notes, maybe help each other critique each
other's resumes and portfolios, pasing along opportunities for
freelance work that may not be a fit for you but good for someone
esle, yada yada.

It's gotta be better than just sitting home, responding to Dice, and
otherwise, contemplating our navels.

What do you think? If there is enough interest, I can start up a Yahoo
group just for this purpose and figure out scheduling for getting
together maybe every 2 weeks? This is open to both those who are in
positions and those who are not. Besides...what better way to meet
socially and since it is job-search related, mostly tax deductable
(but that's between you and your accountant)

Respond off-list please and for the purpose I'm describing, please be
in the NY metro area..

Re: hypertext marker location in generated index

2009-01-31 Thread Suzanne Bolduc
Hello Shlomo,

That's what it was! There was a character format in front of the
<$pagenum> building block on the reference page, and it served no
purpose (applying a font that should have been specified in the
IndexIX paragraph format to start with). Now my page numbers and the
line of dots leading to the first one are clickable at last. This
feels much better, thank you very much.

However I notice that the index terms themselves are still not
clickable, which seems to indicate that the active area only expands
to the right of the hypertext marker after all -- unless I missed
something else.

Thank you again. :)

Mark a graphic as non-printable in pdf

2009-01-31 Thread OCONNOR Mark
Hi all,

We want to be able to include a color image logo on the first page of
each chapter. We do not want the image to be printable from the pdf
file. Is there any way in which this can be done?

We're using FrameMaker 7.x, Acrobat 5, 6, and 7 (but we mostly print
directly from FrameMaker using Distiller 3.0).

Many thanks,

Mark O'C
