Technically this is possible, with the specific controls implemented
through Acrobat JavaScript.

See a generic example at
http://microtype.com/showcase/MultimediaAsst/CandleReport.pdf (where
segments are displayed in a floating window, each its own title). This
example was authored with FrameMaker and converted to PDF with
TimeSavers+Multimedia Assistant, with no extra steps in the PDF.

New options for Flash integration/control are available in Acrobat/Reader 9
(where the Flash player is embedded in Reader), but this would make using
Acrobat/Reader version 9 a requirement for your end users.

Native FrameMaker (versions 8 and 9) provide minimal support for the
inclusion of SWF, so you will have to deal with Acrobat JavaScript in the
PDF as a post-creation step. Using FrameMaker for the particular job
depends on other considerations.

Graphics after a sidehead paragraph will not stay at anchoring position

2009-12-15 Thread Andersen, Verner Engell VEA
Hi

I used to insert anchored frames "at insertion point" with distance
above baseline to 0.0 points.

This doesn't work whenever I insert a graphics frame on a an empty "in
column" line immediately after a sidehead paragraph.

It works I have an inline text sentence between the sidehead and the
anchor line.

Is there any way to solve this?

Best regards,

Can you explain what you mean by "doesn't work"? Other useful
information:

-- Side Head-Alignment setting of the side head.

-- Key characteristics of the pgf into which you're trying to put the
anchored frame (especially, is line spacing fixed?).

-- What do you mean by "inline text sentence" -- is this another pgf?

Graphics after a sidehead paragraph will not stay at anchoringposition

For the benefit of others, I'm copying this to the lists.

The problem is the alignment of your heading 4 (the side head pgf). On
the Pagination tab of Paragraph Designer, Side Head - Alignment is set
to First Baseline. That means the h4 aligns itself to the bottom edge of
the first line of the following pgf (figure body).

By default, an inline anchored frame's Distance Above Baseline setting
is 0.0 points. So the bottom edge of the side head and the bottom edge
of the anchored frame are aligned, causing the frame to extend above the
side head.

The fix is easy: change heading 4's Side Head - Alignment setting to Top
Edge. Since its font size is the same as your body text's, this should
make no difference when a heading 4 is followed by body text.

Just for future reference, you can set an inline anchored frame's
Distance Above Baseline to a negative number. So, it would also be
possible to fix this problem by tweaking that setting to around -136 pts
(the height of the frame minus the height of the line it's in). But that
would obviously be a manual and fussy, frame-by-frame process, so I
mention it just as an FYI.

It's an inline anchored frame. It doesn't matter whether the pgf
containing it also contains text. The problem was caused by the side
head's alignment to the baseline of that pgf.

FrameMaker 9 Issues

2009-12-15 Thread Martin Ley
Hi,

I'm just getting a weird keyboard problem in Frame 9.

I run Frame under Parallels Desktop for Mac 5/XP SP3. I've updated to TCS2
recently. I have been getting along fine, but yesterday my keyboard mapping
went weird: In Frame 9 when I try to type a single quote, I get a question
mark. There are other weird key mappings going on. I do not get this problem in
Photoshop (part of TCS2) in the same Parallels/XP environment (running at the
same time as Frame) - the keys work as expected.

I originally thought this was a Parallels problem, but since things work fine
in Photoshop it can't be - it must be Frame-specific.

Any clues as to what's going on?

Martin

So, it would also be

> text-bearing paragraph?

It's an inline anchored frame. It doesn't matter whether the pgf
containing it also contains text. The problem was caused by the side
head's alignment to the baseline of that pgf.

Re: Creating E-mail newsletters

I've used many different tools and processes for this. Can you
elaborate on what exactly you want to be able to do? Does your web
site's CMS have mail notification capability?

I use and recommend ConstantContact for the creation and fulfillment.
Then PDF your master or a control copy of the email and post that

Martin
