Hi All,

I'm looking for some resources to learn how to use RoboHelp with FrameMaker.
I have Technical Communication Suite 2.0, and I can't find any tutorials

online help for RoboHelp is not context sensitive. I have been trying to
link a FrameMaker book, but I only get one file out of 8 to show up when I
try to generate WebHelp.

I found a link on the Web for a demo by RJ Jacquez

to play it, a second instance starts a few seconds after the first one, so I
get two presentations playing at once, but out of sync.

Don't know if it's relevant, but I'm running Win XP64 with 8 GB of RAM, dual

I'd be very grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks.

S1000D in Framemaker unclassified

2010-11-01 Thread Mitchell, Richard (NNPPI)
You can quite easily use Framemaker but you will need package to provide
the DTDs and the front end matter you need for S1000D data modules.

An example of the product you will need is Mekon Eclipse S1000D which
acts as a plug in for Framemaker.

This also allows you to still produce stuff in unstructured as well as
structured, the PTC product (was called Arbortext) is a pure structured
authoring tool.

The free download I think you may be referring to is the DITA Tools
which although is used for producing structured data modules is not
S1000D compliant.

Does anyone have some experience with creation of S1000D manuals in
Framemaker, no matter the Framemaker version?
One of our customers and by consequence my project manager asked me to
find out if we can write them via PTC products but price seems the first
and main obstacle, besided the learning curve.
And as we do have a lot of experience with (unstructured) Frame, it
would be obvious to insist on writing them via our beloved tool.
The download of the package is for free, right?

Anyhow, I'm going to have a look at this webinar

you all like to share would be great!

Recommendations for FrameMaker typesetting services (low level)?

2010-11-01 Thread Harding, Dan
My apologies if this isn't appropriate for the list, but I figure it is a
better resource than anywhere else. Any pointers to either freelancers or
services appreciated.

Warning: this will most likely be considered drudgework. Nothing creative about
it.

Due to additional projects and shifting duties, I am looking at possibly
outsourcing some of the FrameMaker work that I currently perform. Currently
everything is done inhouse.

This will not be high-level design or creative work. The Frame formats are
already created (Unstructured FM9/Win), and whomever does the work may not
deviate from the existing formats due to the possibility of files being used in
multiple projects in the future.

Work would be on an as-needed basis, with fairly tight turnaround, but no
guarantee of a minimum number of hours. For each project we'd set up a "window"
of time as to services might be needed. Chapters are usually 30-50 pages in
length, so that's the amount of material you'd receive at a time, although it's
possible, although unlikely, that you might receive more than one chapter at
the same time. Total volume per annum not expected to exceed 800 pages.

Two possible types of work, depending on the stage of production we're in:

1. We supply FM file to use as template, along with source document in Word
(which is semi-formatted already), and any graphics to be placed. All tables
would be provided as placed graphics (i.e., tables are not done within Frame).
Existing print materials would be provided as formatting guides, along with a
style guide we give to our authors. No hard pagination at this stage, just
formatting of text elements. Expected turnaround time would be 3-5 days per
chapter.

2. We would supply previously-formatted FM file, along with hard copy from our
proofreading service indicating changes to be made in the FM file. Tedious, but
necessary work. Expected turnaround time would be 2-4 days per chapter.

Like I said, drudgework.

The most cost-effective services I've been recommended thus far have been
outside the U.S., but we are reluctant to engage such services for a variety of
reasons (communication barriers, difficulty of paying international vendors,
recourse, etc.)

Any suggestions are appreciated on or off list.

Thank you,

I have noticed something similar with my FM 7 and Windows 7 setup. Often, I
will get a "Not Responding" notification in the FM title bar. It looks like
FM is locked, but after awhile, control does eventually return to FM.

I have noticed something similar with my FM 7 and Windows 7 setup. Often, I
will get a "Not Responding" notification in the FM title bar. It looks like
FM is locked, but after awhile, control does eventually return to FM.

Thank you,
