Re: Adobe ExportPDF

2011-05-09 Thread de Rouck, Tom (Gent)
Hi Susan,

I used Mif2Go too, but I must admit that I'm even more happy with the results
we are getting from the latest Adobe Acrobat X Pro, using the Save As Word
function! This depends however on the native application (if it's Frame, than
you're good!).

Hi Framers,

Has anyone taken a gander at this product/service yet? I'm occasionally plagued
by co-workers who want editable Word versions of docs I create in Frame. The
Frame export to RTF leaves a whole lot to be desired and I'm wondering if this
new thing will produce a better formatted RTF file. Anyone know what the
limitations are? Does it choke on master pages and graphics?

Needless to say, the FAQs on the Adobe site aren't the questions I'd be
asking.?

Thanks.

I'm not familiar with Adobe ExportPDF, but we use Mif2Go to convert FM to Word,
and it works wonderfully well. If you can't find the solution that you want
with Adobe ExportPDF, check out Mif2Go.

RE: FrameMaker to ePub; ePub readers and pinned graphics

2011-05-09 Thread Owen, Clint
Hedley,

I use my Barnes Noble Nook (original, non-color version) every day.
It's great for reading text, but graphics handling is terrible. Mainly,
you can't zoom in on a graphic to see any details. If a graphic is
larger than the screen, it is automatically shrunk to fit and that is
all you get. It reads PDF and ePub natively and I use Calibre to convert
other formats.

clumsy alternative might be setting two bookmarks, one on the diagram
and another (constantly moving) bookmark at the current point in the
text.

Has anyone got any opinions on the best eReader and why they consider it
so for their purposes? There is a comparison chart on Wikipedia which
leads me to think that all of them are pretty average, particularly if
you don't want to be locked into an Amazon Whispernet or Apple iTunes to
purchase and download books.

Fw: FM10 does not output Adobe PDF

2011-05-09 Thread bruce . macarthur
Hello,
I spent 1.5 hours on the phone with Adobe support Friday afternoon. We
were unable to figure why I can't print to Acrobat PDF distiller. The
distiller is the one that came with FM10. My system shows that the file
was sent to the printer, however, there is no file created anywhere. When
I try to save as PDF, all the Arial Black fonts change to Times New Roman.
The resulting PDF file appears to have squares instead of characters. I
have tried to replace the true type fonts to no avail. If I change to
another font, the problem goes away. The document can save as PDF on FM8.
FM9 and FM10 appear to have the same save as problem. FM 9 is able to
print to PDF. If anyone can give me some assistance, I would appreciate
it.
Thank You,

Hello,
I just loaded FM10 on Windows 7 64. I tried to print to Adobe PDF. I have
the request for filename selected, however, it prints, there are no error

OK, however, I can't get the bookmarks that way. Can someone tell me if
there is a setting that I don't have correct. This worked fine on FM9.

Re: FM10 (does not) output Adobe PDF - quite possible

2011-05-09 Thread Georg Eck
Hi FrameUsers.

Indeed Print as PDF from a book, or selected files, or pages with
different orientations and sizes could FrameMaker Print as PDF.

We add this function to FINALYSER 0044 see menu FINALYSER PDF tools.

Steps for Printing as PDF:

+ Open a FrameMaker Book

+ Select the file(s) you want to Print as PDF

+ Print Choose AdobePDF Printer (Note: Change the paper size if you
want there are special sizes in your book)

+ Select Generate Adobe Data

+ Select Print in File and correct the name with suffix .ps

+ Choose Print

+ You will get a message from FINALYSER:

Postcript file was created. Do you want FINALYSER to convert it to
PDF format?

+ Choose YES

Result: You will get a PDF with different page sizes/orientations as PDF
on XP, Win 7(x86) and Win 7 (x64).

Re: Fw: FM10 does not output Adobe PDF

2011-05-09 Thread Mike Wickham
Someone had previously reported that checking the Convert CMYK to RGB
fixed teh Arial Black font problem in Save As PDF. If that doesn't do
it, there were also some problems reported with certain versions of
Arial Black that were included, if I remember correctly, with certain
Windows Service Pack updates. If you search the Web for Arial Black
problems, you should be able to find more information on it.

I'm not familiar with Adobe ExportPDF, but we use Mif2Go to convert FM to Word,
and it works wonderfully well. If you can't find the solution that you want
with Adobe ExportPDF, check out Mif2Go.

Hi Framers,
Has anyone taken a gander at this product/service yet? I'm occasionally plagued
by co-workers who want editable Word versions of docs I create in Frame. The
Frame export to RTF leaves a whole lot to be desired and I'm wondering if this
new thing will produce a better formatted RTF file. Anyone know what the
limitations are? Does it choke on master pages and graphics?

Needless to say, the "FAQs" on the Adobe site aren't the questions I'd be
asking.?

Thanks.
...Susan

Susan,

I think that this is a web-based service, which means that we would not
be able to use it

FrameMaker to ePub; ePub readers and pinned graphics

2011-05-09 Thread Owen, Clint
Hedley,

I use my Barnes & Noble Nook (original, non-color version) every day.

Subject: FrameMaker to ePub; ePub readers and pinned graphics

Good day book butchers:

Can anyone tell me whether FrameMaker 9 or 10 can export directly to
ePub format without going through the RoboHelp intermediary process (I'm
still back with FrameMaker 8)?

I am particularly interested in acquiring an ePub reader on which you
can pin a graphic so that you can read the explanatory main text by
scrolling around the pinned graphic. That is, I have a diagram of how
double clutch gearbox works and I want to pin this diagram so I can
refer to it while reading the accompanying main text. The alternative
would be to keep scrolling back and forth from diagram to text. Another
clumsy alternative might be setting two bookmarks, one on the diagram
and another (constantly moving) bookmark at the current point in the

Regards,
Hedley

P.S. Hi to all after a long absence. I am now retired and have
transformed into a bicycle nut!

Fw: FM10 does not output Adobe PDF

2011-05-09 Thread bruce.macart...@vsea.com
Hello,
I spent 1.5 hours on the phone with Adobe support Friday afternoon. We
were unable to figure why I can't print to Acrobat PDF distiller. The
distiller is the one that came with FM10.
If anyone can give me some assistance, I would appreciate
it.
Thank You,
Bruce

Hello,
I just loaded FM10 on Windows 7 64. I tried to print to Adobe PDF. I have
the request for filename selected, however, it prints, there are no error
messages, and I can't find the file. If I save the file as PDF, it saves
OK, however, I can't get the bookmarks that way. Can someone tell me if
there is a setting that I don't have correct. This worked fine on FM9.

FM10 does not output Adobe PDF

According to the Adobe forum, I think this is a known issue with Win7 64 bit
installs. They were working on a solution, but I haven't heard of anything
being announced yet.

FM10 (does not) output Adobe PDF - quite possible

2011-05-09 Thread Georg Eck
Hi FrameUsers.

Indeed Print as PDF from a book, or selected files, or pages with
different orientations and sizes could FrameMaker Print as PDF.

We add this function to FINALYSER 0044 see menu FINALYSER > PDF tools.

Steps for Printing as PDF:

+ Open a FrameMaker Book

+ Select the file(s) you want to Print as PDF

+ Print > Choose AdobePDF Printer (Note: Change the paper size if you
want there are special sizes in your book)

+ Select Generate Adobe Data

+ Select Print in File and correct the name with suffix .ps

+ Choose Print

+ You will get a message from FINALYSER:

"Postcript file was created. Do you want FINALYSER to convert it to
PDF format?"

+ Choose YES

Result: You will get a PDF with different page sizes/orientations as PDF
on XP, Win 7(x86) and Win 7 (x64).

Fw: FM10 does not output Adobe PDF

2011-05-09 Thread Mike Wickham
Someone had previously reported that checking the "Convert CMYK to RGB"
fixed teh Arial Black font problem in Save As PDF. If that doesn't do
it, there were also some problems reported with certain versions of
Arial Black that were included, if I remember correctly, with certain
Windows Service Pack updates. If you search the Web for "Arial Black
problems," you should be able to find more information on it.

Structured Frame Reference Guides

2011-05-09 Thread Bjokne, Tim (Contractor)
I can't find any third party Frame 8 reference guides that talk about
structured Framemaker. I see plenty of versions 7 and 9, but no 8.

Am I one of the few people using that version of Frame? Is there a book
somewhere that I can purchase?

Specifically, I am setting up an EDD file and I can't decipher via the
Adobe help files how to create an element that does not insert a
paragraph break. Paragraph formats all have paragraph breaks after them,
and I don't see a way to "turn that off" from within the EDD.

Any help with either question would be much appreciated.
