Subject: Slightly OT: Adobe Acrobat license craps out and no help from
Customer Support

Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, all patched. Win 7, 64 bit.

All of a sudden, I am receiving the following message about my installation
of Adobe Acrobat Pro - You cannot use this product at this time. You must
repair the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling the product, or
contacting your IT administrator or Adobe Customer support for help.

Why this has just started I do not know. The product has been successfully
installed and activated for almost two years now. I tried the Repair Adobe
Installation option and that does not work. I cannot uninstall the product
until I deactivate it first, but I do not have a deactivate option under
Help, only the Repair Acrobat Installation option.

Has anyone else seen and/or run into this issue and if so, what did you do?

I tried contacting Customer Support (via chat) who has helped me activate
software twice before, but they absolutely claim that although they can help
me activate software, they can't help me deactivate it. When I ask why, I
get the standard ill-worded Adobe canned response:

Please call the technical department at 800-833-6687.Monday-Friday, 5am to
7pm (Pacific Time) to get resolve this issue.

They did direct me to Help > Deactivate, even though I explicitly stated two
times in my chat that I do NOT have that as an option. Only the Repair
option. They then directed me to use the Repair option even tho' I also
explicitly stated that I had tried that twice and that had not worked.

I would love to rant at this point, but I think you get the gist.

Any ideas, thoughts, etc?

Thanks,

TVB

Slightly OT: Adobe Acrobat license craps out and no help from Customer Support - Resolved

2011-07-18 Thread Spectrum Writing
I finally got through to Customer Support who indeed deactivate my
installation. I then uninstalled, and reinstalled and then had to resolve a
known issue w/ the license. These are the links that helped me:

First give this a try: http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/licensing.html

If that doesn't work give this page a shot:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/100/1008779.html

Also, something that I learned a long time ago w/ this issue - if you still
are having licensing issues w/ the specific message that I received, do
this: In the Start field, enter msconfig.exe, and in the System
Configuration dialog box that opens, open the Services tab and make sure
that FLEXNet Licensing Service is enabled.

Finding standard (non-smart) quote, apostrophe

2011-07-18 Thread Simon BUCH

Dear Tim,

There's two possible workarounds:
1. Change the occurrances of your 'prime' symbol to be the real Unicode prime ?
(U+2032) or double prime ? (U+2033) characters. Hopefully you'll be using a
Unicode font that covers such mathematical symbols.

2. If you've got content that you don't want to be included in the spell
checker, you can set the paragraph/character tag's language to be: "None".

OK, here's a follow-up: I'm going through this document more than a year
after I wrote it and I suddenly realize why I'm having this problem with
non-smart apostrophes: I HAD to turn smart quotes off because my text,
which is very technical, includes terms that contain the "prime" symbol,
which is a tic or non-smart apostrophe.

So I guess now I'm stuck. I'm not changing the primes to apostrophes.

Trouble with hypertext link

2011-07-18 Thread Tim Pann
Hello all,

Frame 9, Windows XP SP3

Is anyone a good resource to help me understand the rather odd manner
that Frame 9 does hypertext links?

I'm trying to put make a hypertext link from a phrase that's a subset of
an entire line, but Frame treats the entire line as hypertext. I'm
wondering if there's a "stop" marker I should be adding?
