Re: Diff/Merge tool

2011-10-24 Thread Gyanesh Talwar
Doug,

Unstructured FrameMaker 10 is compatible with Sharepoint and Documentum for
diff and other versioning features:

http://help.adobe.com/en_US/framemaker/using/index.html

With structured FrameMaker, the possibilities are much more. If you use
XML/DITA roundtripping, SVN will manage those files excellently. Just like
the code, multiple people will be able to work on the same files.

You can try doing a pilot - it will give you a good idea if moving to
structured FrameMaker makes sense for you.

Cheers,
Gyanesh

There is none... Which is ok because when you add a Framemaker file to your
Subversion repository, it'll be treated as a binary file and SVN won't
 diff/merge it anyway.

SVN allows multiple developers to simultaneously modify line-based
source-code files, but it will not allow multiple developers to
simultaneously modify Framemaker files. Under SVN, your editing process
will be as it was under VSS: Frame files will be editable by only one person
 at a time.

Untrue. SVN diff/merge is not XML-aware, so you CANNOT depend on it to allow
multiple people to simultaneously work on the same XML files.

Re: installing PDF printer driver

Correct. The only printers that are listed in the Control Panel's Printers
area are one installed by Snag-It and the Dell printer that my network
shares. (The guy who helps manage my network and router installed that Dell
printer to the laptop.)

Try using Repair Acrobat Installation under the Help menu. It is for
situations where the print driver was deleted.
If that doesn't work, reinstall.
If that doesn't work, uninstall and then reinstall.*

*If you have older versions of Acrobat or Reader installed, uninstall all
(deactivate if necessary) and reinstall.

+1 for RevoUninstaller

 From bitter experience:
1. Uninstall Acrobat Reader if you have it on the laptop.
2. Don't forget to deactivate the Acro Pro licence before you uninstall it.
