Advanced: Changes in Dictonaries in FM 10/11 | TERM CHECK

2012-10-20 Thread Georg Eck
Hello everybody.

THX for your feedback and questions.

Matt, yes I forgot this news.
Since InDesign CS5.5 it works with HunSpell dictionaries too. Now, with
Fm11 there are mostly your decision to work with
Proximity or HunSpell dictionaries for Spell Check, Hyphenation and
Thesaurus, if available.

*
John:
The best of this Adobe strategy: Now several Adobe products use this
same dictionaries and you can update these anytime.
It's a great news too, that now you can add/exclude/except any
words/phrases for a project in an user or project dictionary, and Id
CS6, Fm11, ... use the same dictionaries.
Therefore there is Finalyser TERM CHECK now available for Id, Fm, MS
Word and NEW for SIMQIN too, and we advise:
+ design, save and use your language dictionaries central
+ design, save and use your terminology central central
+ and check on all applications on all clients in a workgroup based on
these central data
More about TERM CHECK on

Winfried Reng: The differences of HunSpell and Proximity:
1. HunSpell is open source and you can add any developed and other
languages any time.
2. HunSpell is now the default dictionary setting in Fm11 and in Id CS6
3. Since Fm11 Adobe install 45 HunSpell dictionaries for 23 languages.
More dictionaries:
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/de/dictionaries
4. These dictionaries are better as in FM 8 and earlier.
5. Somebody say, that the quality is in several languages different,
sometimes Proximity is better
or in same languages Proximity Thesaurus is available only.
6. Different is the algorithm, that it's very important for hyphenation
quality.

Betreff: Changes in Dictonaries in FM 10/11

Hello everybody.

That's not a question - that's a little story about changes with
Dictionaries in FM 10/11:
Perhaps, that is useful for users they want to update from FM 8 to
10/11.
Somebody did successful worked with user.dct and site.dct in the past,
but what is new in FM 10 or 11?

At first save your user.dct and site.dct (or other dictionaries)!

*
Default maker.ini in $fmhome:

[Files]
; Files
-
; If it is not an absolute path, then it is relative to the FMHome
directory.
UserDictionary=
SiteDictionary=dict\site.dct

If there is no link to a path/file for an UserDictionary, you can find
the default directory in:
C:\Users\[name]\AppData\LocalLow\Adobe\Linguistics:
\Dictionaries (FM10)
\UserDictionaries (Fm 11)
   \ FMUserDictionary
\alladded.txt > for the added words/phrases
  excluded.txt > for the excluded words/phrases
\de_DE etc. > devided for every Langauge

More: Soon in our http://WORKFLOWblog.de (currently in German only)

You can find the SiteDictionary (see maker.ini) at $fmhome\dict with
site.dct, but it should be in \FMSiteDictionary in AppData or it would
be better for a workgroup it should be on a shared/server disk.

Question: Where are saved the Standard Language Dictionaries?
Since FrameMaker 9 there is a central path:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Linguistics

Note: There is an additional maker.ini for every user, you can find it
here:
C:\Users\[name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\11
All settings in user maker.ini are winning about the central maker.ini
in $fmhome.

You can delete the user maker.ini, at next start of FrameMaker,
FrameMaker will create a new maker.ini for the user (Please save the
user maker.ini at first!)

cross-reference dialog history question

2012-10-20 Thread Lin Sims
Frame always assumes it's xrefing within the same document.

When I know I'm going to be inserting multiple xrefs to other
documents, what I do is copy the first xref and paste it in the new
location(s). Then I edit each new xref to point to the correct
location in the other document.

FW: FM10 - font error

2012-10-20 Thread Mike Wickham
Since you have FM10, you can use the Replace Fonts feature. Simply open
the Fonts pod, then click on the Replace button to open the Replace
Fonts pod. (There may be a way to open that pod directly, but I couldn't
find it.) The Replace Fonts pod will let you specify Times Roman (or
other font) as a permanent replacement for Times. Save the document.

FM10 - font error

2012-10-20 Thread Fred Ridder

I just wanted to amplify on some of the obscure places where unavailable font
specifications can lurk:
-Master pages and Reference pages. These are not searched when you search from
the Body page view; you have to search them explicitly.
-Paragraph formatting in unused (non-instantiated) table formats. FM retains
the formatting specs for each cell in the heading row and the first body row
for every table format; whether or not the table format is used in the
document, the font specs are still "used" in the file.
-WMF or EMF graphics. These graphics file formats embed the name of the font
that was used, but not the font itself.
-EPS graphics that were not created with the fonts embedded

Finally, a real gotcha. A few years back (in the FM7/FM8 era, if I recall
correctly) I worked on a cooperatively authored specification document. One of
the authors had his system set up for Chinese language use, and whenever he
saved a file in .fm format, it wound up with some fragment of code that
specified a Chinese font that nobody else had. The gotcha was that I was never
able to find the fragment, because the process of saving the .fm file to MIF to
allow detailed examination actually *removed* the errant fragment. So doing a
"MIF wash" (saving to MIF and then converting the MIF back to .fm file format)
became another part of the generalized solution to a "missing fonts" problem
with a file, and the *only* solution that worked in that particular case.

If you have to deal with the missing font, you have two choices: load the font,
or find the font usage and change it.

Missing font usages can lurk in such unsuspected places as a deleted paragraph
format in a table header cell with the table header turned off. These can be
very difficult to find in the binary fm file. For instance, you could go
through every table, turn the table header on, type some copy in each cell, and
see if it exposes some old paragraph format usages you thought you'd gotten rid
of many years ago. These are easy to find in MIF, though. Export to MIF, open
in Notepad, search for Times, replace with the font of your choice.

I am using FM10 on a book project and have inherited some older (FM7?) files

there is no problem ? just an error message saying Times New Roman is used

I have searched the document, all tags etc. and can find no reference to or use
