Manually resizing table cell width
Hi again, Framers-- To manually resize cell widths, I usually select the table cell (column or entire row) and click the little black resizing node (thanks, Curtis) to drag it and resize the cell wider or narrower. For whatever reason, I can no longer do this. I'm on FM 11, have been for a few months now, and I'm sure this is something new or else I'd have noticed this before now. Also, when I select a table cell and right-click, the selection highlighting disappears and the context menu no longer offers table formatting commands. What could I have done to bollux up this functionality? More important, how can I fix it? Bloated HTML mapping pages and CNTRL L
Thanks Framers for the advice. I searched the archives of this list serv and found a super plug-in called CleanImport. However it is only tested up to FM 10 Nevertheless, I correctly placed the unzipped .dll in the plugin folder, but nothing showed up when I restarted FM. I have written to the French company which seems terrific as they have quite a few handy plugins and they specialize in Framemaker. However, I could not even register because of site faults. So if anybody knows about this company I would be grateful. Yes, I must delete the HTML mapping, but with a 10,000 page book file with over 90 files you can see why I need some scripting help or something. That works out as about 9,000 individual deletes. The reference page apparatus sure does need some redesigning. Rob Lauriston asked if I used Control L. Well, yes, but was not surprised when it did nothing. " L" is my most worn-out key. I have elsewhere commented on the failure of cntrl l, one) to clear flashing [11 is a bad flasher] and 2) to reinstate footnote separator lines What I have done as a work around is open a new file, import the bloated files, (not copy and paste) requesting the use of this empty document's formats, then I import formats from the template. Clumsy no doubt, then overwrite the original file. Careful, steady work, but so far have done 4,900 pages. I do own FrameScript, but have been too lazy to learn it. I found the help in our forum in a series of 2008 posts; see below. I have 1500+ unstructured Frame files and each contains 11 incorrect reference pages. Is there a way to expediently remove reference pages without opening and closing each file? And you can use it in a book, if you want to create a book or books to manage the files. And you could probably do it with a FrameScript too. HTML mapping pages BLOAT
Hi Rob Are you looking for a quick way to get rid of umpteen unwanted reference pages from lots of files? I'd guess a programmer could easily write a script to delete them from the MIFs. Failing that, I'd try copying the content into a new clean FM11 file. I'd take a copy of my FM11 template and paste the old content into it. Might have to import formats afterwards to make FM happy about the character and paragraph tagging, I'm not sure off the top of my head. Cheers Rebecca >>> "Rob Shell" 31/10/12 08:23 >>> Dear Framers: I need some help. My rather old files from FM6 and onwards are behaving awkwardly when read into FM 11 (patched). The problem is that I have far too many HTML mapping reference pages. I have learnt that the max number of ref pages is 100, but the HTML bloat is pushing it over the top. I am working in unstructured framemaker, not using HTML AT ALL. I have tried fixing the template file but this only helps a little. Anyone else have this problem? I am hoping this is my BIG problem with these files. Results in massive sluggishness, elephantiasis I call it. One dark, stormy day, I began a new contract. RE: astrological symbols as fonts
Twelve Zodiac signs are in Wingdings: ^_`abcdefghi But you probably want a font that specializes in all of it, so: http://www.astrosense.net/downloads.html Specifically: http://www.astrosense.net/fonts/starfont.zip I wouldn't bother to make Frame drawing objects (on Ref pages or wherever) if I was hoping to use the symbols in an equation or otherwise manipulate them with styles. Conversely, if you want multi-color icons or some-such, you'll have to make drawings (anywhere) and import them as necessary (Ref Pages, for style calls; in Background frames, for headers and footers; in Anchor Frames, for ad hoc usage; etc.).
