The HTML mapping pages issue

2012-11-03 Thread Rob Shell
Thanks Richard:
I am sure you are right. My doc is heavily cross referenced and has many,
many .pgfs.
My question now is should I now delete the small html and other mapping
files, headings files?
Frame Maker should give a warning or something if it is going to go over the
top of 100 reference pages, surely?

Manually resizing table cell width

2012-11-03 Thread Dov Isaacs
For whatever plusses and minuses there are to Adobe using OWL for its user
interface, there is nothing that it can do that would require a system reboot
to work correctly. Once you have left the application using OWL, you are
completely out of that environment. There is nothing persistent about OWL that
gets reset only by a reboot operation. Nor does OWL operate at a protection
level of the operating system where it can have that level of influence.

Given that Adobe has not heard of experiences similar to yours from its
millions of users of its applications that use this interface (i.e., all the CS
applications, for example), the issues you are experiencing may be local to
your system., possibly either the video driver or video card itself.

Please submit a report to Adobe including specific information about the
anomalies you are experiencing and information about your system's
configuration, especially video card and video driver version.

Windows 7 is the most stable OS I've used in years. I almost never

need to reboot except when an installer requires it.

Unfortunately Adobe uses a homebrew UI framework (Adobe OS Widget

Library aka OWL) that's buggy as hell. Occasionally it gets itself

into a state where it needs the system to be rebooted before it will

work right, but I don't think that's Windows' fault.

Writing FrameMaker Scripts (FM10)

2012-11-03 Thread Jang F.M. Graat
Hello Harsh,

You should get a couple of PDFs from the Adobe website and read the intros.

http://help.adobe.com/en_US/framemaker/scripting/framemaker_10_scripting.pdf
http://wwwimages.adobe.com/www.adobe.com/products/indesign/scripting/pdfs/Adobe_Intro_to_Scripting1.pdf
http://wwwimages.adobe.com/www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/scripting/pdfs/javascript_tools_guide.pdf

The first document lists all objects and methods for FrameMaker 10. The other
two documents give you information about more generic objects and methods
available via the ExtendScript ToolKit (ESTK). For questions about specific
aspects of scripting there is the FrameMaker Scripting forum:
http://forums.adobe.com/community/framemaker/extendscript

Debra Herman has had a blog on ExtendScript for FrameMaker but after a good
start she has not been posting much recently. You will find her blog at:
http://extendingframemaker.blogspot.nl

And finally, I have started a blog on Automating FrameMaker, in which one
category is reserved for ExtendScript. Not much there yet, but there will be
more and I think it is useful for beginning scriptures.

Good luck

Framemaker scripting

2012-11-03 Thread Joseph Lorenzini
Hi Harsh,

Unfortunately, the official end user documentation provided by Adobe is
incredibly poor, which makes learning ExtendScript significantly more
difficult than it needs to be.

Do you have any programming or scripting background? If you do not already
have this, I would say you need a basic familiarity with JavaScript and
start familiarizing yourself with FrameMaker's Document Object Model. Once
you have that, then I'd approach learning in terms of basic use cases.

You can also look at the following links:

http://forums.adobe.com/community/framemaker/extendscript?view=overview
http://blogs.adobe.com/tcs/2011/08/extendscript-estk/new-f-10-estk-doc.html

ExtendScript is inadequately documented and the samples Adobe provides
aren't much help. I gave up and bought FrameScript. Here's what's
available:
