I think I sent you a link long ago to a video by Adobe about using of the new

PDF and Alternatives to Acrobat ... PDFill Editor ???

2013-05-20 Thread Shlomo Perets
[Unless I am missing something.]

FrameMaker has the bundled/integrated "PDF Creation Add-on" (=headless
Distiller). So even if one does not have Acrobat installed, creation of PDFs
from within FrameMaker, with full support for interactive features / pdfmark
processing etc. is available (no less than the creation support available
with Distiller in the full version of Acrobat). [BTW I know of a few
TimeSavers users who installed TimeSavers/Assistants in conjunction with the
PDF Creation Add-on].

So the discussion should really be as to alternatives for Acrobat in case
one need to edit/modify PDFs, and not on creation of PDFs authored with
FrameMaker.

Hi everyone,

A while ago, we had this discussion about replacements for Acrobat, from a
FrameMaker perspective. Seemed like not much was available. At the time,
Rick mentioned that any replacement would need to provide support for
PDFmarks PostScript code (if I have that correct). So I wrote off to various
vendors. Most had either never heard of this or do not support it. But one
vendor, PDFill (see below), sent back this link to look at:

http://www.pdfill.com/pdf_batch_command.html#9

Rick (and others :), I don't know enough to know whether this information
has any connection at all with PDFmarks PostScript code. Would you (anyone

Thank you kindly,

RE: PDF and Alternatives to Acrobat ... PDFill Editor ???

2013-05-20 Thread Rick Quatro
Hi Elchanan,

PDFill is a PDF editor, not a PDF creator. The pdfmark issue is with PDF
creators. They need to read the pdfmark code that FrameMaker embeds in the
PostScript stream to create bookmarks, links, etc. as the PDF file is
created. They do have a free PDF Writer, but it is not clear if it supports
pdfmark. But it would easy enough to try it. Use it to make a PDF from a
FrameMaker document and see if you get bookmarks, links from your xrefs,
etc.

And I think, but not sure, that Pdf995 costs ($9.95) to get "without a
sponsor page" ... all their tools cost this, hence the "995" in the name. :)
Their "PdfEdit995" and "PdfSignature995" products adds the capability to add
combine/extract pages, encryption, etc.
