Classic Aldous 7-part webinar series on Unstructure to XML for FrameMaker restored

2013-06-08 Thread Maxwell Hoffmann
Somehow, the 7-part series that Tom Aldous created in 2011 on all aspects of
XML and structured FrameMaker expired. Last night I was able to restore all
episodes. They now appear in chronological order near the top of our Recorded
webinars list in my signature below.

I also created a blog with a brief description of each episode and a visible
link to each episode. You can see the blog by using the short URL below:
http://adobe.ly/13hoJQ0

Note: this vintage webinar uses FrameMaker 10, but tools and principles are
basically the same. Although some menus have been streamlined in FM11, you will
have problem following the steps. Several of the webinar episodes have sample
files (e.g. scripts, conversion tables and sample scripts) that you can
download and try out for yourself.

Thanks to the many people who brought this to my team's attention. Here is a
TWEET if you wish to share the news:

Re: Why won't FrameMaker use the default attribute I set in the EDD?

2013-06-08 Thread Writer
Heather, you don't say what version of FM you're using, and I'm not totally
clear what you are doing, but I'll throw this out there...

You want to change the default alignment of images, right?

Did you actually change the default setting in the EDD? If so, did you then
import the new EDD settings into the concept.template.fm file?

Nadine

Hello everyone,

Here is my scenario:

1. Create a new concept.
2. Insert fig within conbody. pimage is inserted automatically
within fig (because of EDD). **The same problem occurs if I only insert
image.
3. When I click in the Attributes pod, on align, the bottom says: align
Type: Optional Choice Default: left. However, the actual value in the table
is no value and the image appears center aligned.

4. Save the concept.
5. Close the concept.
6. Re-open the concept.
7. image now has align = center.
Here is an excerpt from my EDD for the concept, within the element image.
Name: align     Choice     Optional
Choices:    left, right, center, current
Default:    left

I have tried an Optional String with a default value as well but in this case
the default is also ignored. It does not seem that one can set a Default for a
Required Attribute.

This is not a show-stopper because we can manually set the attribute for each
image and it is saved in the .xml. However, I would like to understand how
this works (or doesn't) and it would also be convenient to have it default to
a left alignment whenever an image is added.

Thanks in advance for any response!

Heather

Just use the default image properties dialog. Don't try setting the element
attribute.
