FrameMaker 12 Cloud

2014-05-19 Thread Rick Quatro
Hi Framers,

Anyone using FrameMaker 12 subscription version? The price I am seeing is
$29.99 per month, but it requires a 1 year commitment. If you cancel before
the year is up, they charge you 50% of the remaining months. Huh? What good
is a month-to-month subscription if I have to commit to a year? I am
inquiring for a low-budget, non-profit client. Come on Adobe; there is
enough bad will with all of the subscription stuff and high upgrade prices.
Why the one-year commitment? Is it that costly to turn the subscription on
or off before the year is up? Why not like my Lynda.com subscription which I
can turn off and on at will?

Beverly,
Simple answer, Yes.
If you search for "How to Open a PDF to a specific page" you will get a lot of
hits. One, with a short description of how is
http://www.ehow.com/how_6975556_open-pdf-file-specific.html.

One of the projects I support would like to open a PDF User’s Guide from the
user interface but, and here’s the catch, they want to open to the specific
page of the PDF that applies to the page of the user interface. In other words,
they want the PDF to act like context-sensitive HTML help. And I want it to be
automatic. That is, I want to be able to insert markers in my .fm files that
survive the PDF creation process and I want the software developers I work with
to insert corresponding information in their code that will cause the PDF to
open to the relevant page of the PDF.

A colleague vaguely remembers doing something like this at another company but
thinks it was all post-processing after the PDF was created and that there was
significant software developer effort involved at each release. That would not
be acceptable.

In other words, I want something equivalent to a RoboHelp mapping file. Am I
asking for the impossible? If this is possible, please point me to the topics
in FrameMaker or Acrobat documentation that will get me started.
Thanks for any help you can give,
Beverly

Re: FrameMaker 8 to a Newer Version

2014-05-19 Thread Shmuel Wolfson
F8 and F9 are working again in FM11. There is a slight delay the first
time you use one of them, but other than that they are OK.

People are successfully running FM8 on Windows 7, personally I'd try
it before switching to a newer version.

Hi Framers,

I have not had any problems using the template but plugins do not work. I
have not tried to output as XML so I don’t know how that will go. I have
only been using FrameMaker for a little over a year and am the only TW in my
company.

My company wants to move me off of XP to Windows 7. And is looking to
upgrade the FrameMaker to either version 10, 11, or 12. (These are the
versions they can find to buy legal licenses with.)

Does anyone know if there will be any issues with a template created for
FrameMaker 6 running on these newer versions? Since I am fairly new to FM I
don’t cause myself extra grief.

I have opened a file (that I created in FM 8) in a trial version of FM 12
and it looks okay but I don’t know if there are things going on behind the
scenes. Are there things I should be looking for?

What issues might I have?

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time,
