RE: Pagination Suddenly Changes to "Make Page Count..."

2014-05-29 Thread Craig Ede
Make sure you also choose "Next Page" in the Pagination Settings. The setting
"Read from File" can cause this problem if the page # in the file is not the
one you want.

Hi Framers,

The files in a given book have pagination set to "Delete Empty Pages" and have
always been set this way. Suddenly, they have changed themselves to "Make Page
Count Even" or in a few cases "...Odd." After I reset pagination, often when I
look at it again it's changed back to the wrong setting! Although this spurious
behavior has happened before, it was in the long-distant past; I use these
files at least quarterly and they've been fine for years.

What would cause these behaviors and how do I stop them? Is "Don't Change Page
Count" the proper setting--will that force me to manually remove extraneous
empty pages that may appear at the end of every file?

Yet another grand waste of time to fix at deadline. :-(

Thanks for any thoughts,

VENDOR ANN: Major 40% discount on Tech Comm Suite 5 ends this Friday night

2014-05-29 Thread Maxwell Hoffmann
Hello!

There have been several posts to this group about Adobe's "5 products for the
price of 1" in the past. This is just a reminder that 11:59 PM Pacific Time,
Friday May 30th is when an attractive Adobe price discount comes to an end,
forever.

The normal monthly subscription fee (one year commitment) for just FrameMaker
12 is $29.99. Until the time listed above, you can subscribe to ALL of Adobe
Tech Comm Suite 5 for that same price, $29.99 per month. Yes, that is 5
products for the price of just 1.

The URL link may be found in the TWEET below:

40% Discount ends Friday 30May: just $1 PER DAY for 5x products: 40% off Adobe
TECH COMM SUITE 5 subscription adobe.ly/1i7QcfO

?The 5 products are FrameMaker, RoboHelp, Captivate, Adobe Acrobat Pro and
Presenter. Only $1 per day. 5 products. That translates to 20 cents per day per
product.

I hope that you are able to take advantage of this terrific discount. This
promotion was introduced in February as part of the Product Launch for
FrameMaker 12 and Tech Comm Suite 5. You won't see another discount like this
until the next "major" product version release.

Enjoy!

Embedding YouTube video in a PDF via TCS

2014-05-29 Thread Wendy Fish
Is there a way to embed a YouTube video into a PDF via any of the applications
in TCS 3.5?

We are developing a tutorial, authored in FrameMaker and delivered as a PDF. We
plan to have embedded videos for short tips, etc. but would also like to
provide longer examples. To keep the file size down, we thought that we could
link out to some of our videos that are hosted on YouTube. It'd be nice if the
user could watch those videos from a player within the pdf. (And even better if
they weren't slammed with a million security alerts!)

Also, is there any way to control the size of the player with swf files (or
other multimedia files) that are imported into frame and then distilled to a
pdf?

Thanks very much,
Wendy

Re: Using pdfs in Frame12...cue some spooky music

2014-05-29 Thread Heiko Haida

Well, FrameMaker is not a very reliable and handy tool for editing
graphics.
There may be better and more accurate tools for this like Adobe
Illustrator.

Concerning your question about cropping:

a) The easiest way would be to work with pixel-related formats like
tiff, not with postscript-formats like eps or pdf.

b) If cropping is not effective throughout the whole workflow on a pdf,
you may simply place the whole pdf in a frame as described in step (4),
but then reduce the size of the frame according to the requested
cropping.

c) There may be tools that can crop postscript information.
I once worked with Quite Imposing to produce a booklet and found that
postscript information from the original pdf that had been (invisible)
outside the page frame was in fact completely removed in the booklet.
Maybe somebody else in the forum has a good idea how to deal with it.

Best regards - Tino H. Haida, Berlin

Re: Using pdfs in Frame12...cue some spooky music

2014-05-29 Thread Theresa de Valence

This problem was solved by Arnis Gubins.

Turns out that the cropped Acrobat file needed to be saved as .eps
And then, that I had to change the default settings in Acrobat so that
the eps would be visible in the Frame document.

Thanks again to Arnis for his help.

RE: Problem with MML Import SOLVED

2014-05-29 Thread Karen Robbins
Hi Framers,

A little fussing with the MML file itself was the answer. The MML file is
like a combination script and style sheet that converts the plain-text data
into my paragraph tag styles.

I had to enter new paragraph tag names in the MML file, making sure they
matched the paragraph tags in the template document. Yes, they should have
been the same as always, but something got messed up. It's all better now.

Thanks for all your ideas and help.

Best,

2014-05-29 Thread Fei Min Lorente
Does anyone know if there is such a shortcut, or if I can define one? I've
tried the online help and Google searches. The closest thing I can find is F6
for repeat typing, but of course, that's not working. Is this impossible?

I have a script that changes my selected text to all lower case, and it would
just save me a few seconds if I could hit a shortcut after I select the text
instead of mousing to the Play button in the Script window. It's not a huge
deal, but it would help.

I'm on Windows 7 if that makes a difference.
