RE: fm 12.0.3 update bug WAS: frame 12 pdf right page "blank" problem

2014-10-01 Thread Syed Zaeem Hosain (syed.hos...@aeris.net)
Okay, I have done some testing - although not thoroughly yet! And, I am now
quite confused as to what is the best way to proceed. :(

1. I do not have any ".ai images" in the header of the master page of any
document in the book I am working on.

a. So, I am not sure what impact this really has (as described below).

b. There is only one ".png" image - the logo of my company on the title
master page.

c. (BTW, I assume that ".ai" means an "Adobe Illustrator" binary, correct?
What is a ".ai image"?)

2. I have generated the PDF three different ways from the same FM book
(with different outcomes). Default settings mostly I think - using the
High-Quality options, etc.

a. Print to the Adobe PDF printer,

b. Save as PDF with the RGB option selected, and

c. Save as PDF with the CMYK option selected.

3. Here are the file sizes (names are obvious) of the three PDF files ...
generated as I mentioned from the same input book:

  998,759 Print_PDF.pdf

1,761,186 TEST_CMYK.pdf

2,072,213 TEST_RGB.pdf

4. In the Print_PDF file:

a. Most links are entirely missing. Most of the hypertext markers I had as
"message URL ..." in the FM documents are simply not there in the PDF.

b. From limited checking, I would say that the ones that go to just a
simple web site URL (like "http://www.sitename.com";) are present and working.

c. Ones that go to ftp URL's, or are more complex page URL's (like
"http://www.sitename.com/references/page.html"; are all missing).

d. The links in the Table of Contents (to go to sections inside the
document) are all missing.

e. The internal links (to move within the document) are all missing.

5. In the TEST_CMYK file:

a. Spacing between words in italics are wrong (large) - so text shifts to
the right, and off the page in long enough lines.

b. Links are working though - both in the Table of Contents and in the URL
links (simple and complex). I have not checked everything yet though!

6. In the TEST_RGB file:

a. All appears to be okay ... so far! I will need to do more comprehensive
checking to be certain though.

At this point, all I can say is that I am glad I am not yet at the stage of
final PDF generation for this book. The Save as PDF, with the RGB option
selected, appears to be the most correct, but I have not yet checked it
thoroughly enough to be certain. Otherwise, I would be quite irritated trying
to figure out what to do to get a clean PDF!

If anyone has any suggestions for what I may be doing wrong, I would greatly
appreciate it! I can send along the first 18 to 19 pages of these PDF documents
(the non-confidential sections) to demonstrate the problems.

Hello Framers,

I am Vikash from Adobe FM Engineering team. After our preliminary
investigation in the issue discussed here, we have found that if there is an
".ai" image in the header of the master page, contents of the corresponding
body page wouldn't come in PDF generated through CMYK route.

Please note that this issue won't happen if the .ai image is in the body page.
Do let us know if you still face any issues of the blank page after replacing
or removing the .ai image from the header of the master page .

Thx,

Vikash

Hallo friends,

I do not have this problem. My PDFs (save as pdf) are correct with both left
and right pages. Just tested again.

However, my update procedure was something special, because the first update
ended with an error (had messed up a specific file). Hence I uninstalled FM-12
completely and re-installed, then updated with 1, 2, 3 - and now everything is
OK.

Stuart,

I haven't had need to work with text insets, but I'm wondering if you
can shorten your procedure by inserting the non-breaking space into the
autonumber format for the InsetAnchor paragraph format, and setting its
position to "End of paragraph." It seems like that would automatically
add it where you want. Have you tried it?

RE: Insets and Tables: container paragraphs with no additional spacing

2014-10-01 Thread Craig Ede
The place where I usually run into this in when tables need to occur at the top
of a page. Hanging them off the end of the previous pages last paragraph and
overriding the table setting in the middle of the right side of the Table
Designer to Start: Top of Page usually give me what I want. Of course this
would not work for a table that starts out a file. Removing overrides after
making changes to a file means the force to stop of page can be removed after
addition/deletion edits that might affect where the table ends up on the page.

RE: No rtf output generated from Mif2Go

2014-10-01 Thread Syed Zaeem Hosain (syed.hos...@aeris.net)
The latest version of Mif2Go on the web site works for me for FrameMaker 12 ...
I had to make a few minor changes to a few files (I also only use it to
generate RTF) for my situation.

Here are the gory details - maybe they will help, but I would be surprised,
since my changes were pretty simple really.

First, here are my differences in
%omsyshome%\common\local\config\local_omsys.ini (comparing my version to the
distributed file):

1:94> HelpCopyright=Aeris Communications, Inc.
2:94> HelpCopyright=Omni Systems
1:98> ViewOutputCommand="C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft
Office\Office15\WINWORD.EXE" /mLoadD2gRtfFile
2:98> ViewOutputCommand="C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft
Office\Office14\WINWORD.EXE" /mLoadD2gRtfFile

The Copyright line is obvious - it has my company name rather than Omni
Systems. The other difference is not as obvious ... changes the directory from
Office14 to Office15 for the Word executable on my system.

Second, I changed the default location for Mif2Go stuff in my documents. Here
are the additional lines in %omsyshome%\m2g\local\config\local_m2g_config.ini:

1: 8> [Setup]
1: 9> LocalConfigPath=.\_config\
1:10>
1:11> [Automation]
1:12> ShipPath=.\_ship
1:13>
1:14> [End]

Basically, I prefer my Mif2Go related files to be "one subdirectory below"
where I edit my FM documents ... not in parallel (as is the default, as I
recall), since I keep versions of FM documents there. The two additional
entries above provide that.

I posted this to the Mif2Go Yahoo Group a couple of days ago, but have not
heard anything back. I'm hoping someone here can help me.

I think I followed all the steps to install. Tore my hair out doing it. (I'd
much rather just have an installer.)

All I need is a simple conversion to RTF. I did the basics that I've done
before. Here's what I get:

Console shows this:

Mif2Go could not write F:\path_removed\RTF-Test\Overview.mif
Mif2Go created file: F:\path_removed\RTF-Test\Overview.rtf
in: 0 min 00 seconds at: Sun Sep 28 16:20:01 2014

There is no rtf file in my output folder, despite what the message says.

Log has no errors:

Sun Sep 28 16:19:57 2014
I1: Starting log for m2rbook, b114 and f009, project "Overview"
I1: Opened file F:\path_removed\Overview.fm
I1: File ID is aa
Sun Sep 28 16:20:00 2014

I1: Starting log for dwrtf, r299
I1: Automation processing completed by dwrtf.
Sun Sep 28 16:20:03 2014
I1: Project finished
I1: Closing log for m2rbook

When I try to Wash Via Mif for a single file, the console shows this:

Mif2Go could not write F:\path_removed\Overview.tmb

F: is a partition on my hard drive with plenty of space on it.

I tried again on a mostly blank, new file, and I can't even get the .ini file
to be created when I configure a new project in a new folder.

Any ideas?

Mif2Go could not write F:\path_removed\RTF-Test\Overview.mif
Mif2Go created file: F:\path_removed\RTF-Test\Overview.rtf
in: 0 min 00 seconds at: Sun Sep 28 16:20:01 2014

There is no rtf file in my output folder, despite what the message says.

Log has no errors:

Sun Sep 28 16:19:57 2014
I1: Starting log for m2rbook, b114 and f009, project "Overview"
I1: Opened file F:\path_removed\Overview.fm
I1: File ID is aa
Sun Sep 28 16:20:00 2014
I1: Starting log for drmif, m210

I1: Automation processing completed by dwrtf.
Sun Sep 28 16:20:03 2014
I1: Project finished
I1: Closing log for m2rbook

When I try to Wash Via Mif for a single file, the console shows this:

Mif2Go could not write F:\path_removed\Overview.tmb

F: is a partition on my hard drive with plenty of space on it.

I tried again on a mostly blank, new file, and I can't even get the .ini file
to be created when I configure a new project in a new folder.

Any ideas?

No rtf output generated from Mif2Go

I posted this to the Mif2Go Yahoo Group a couple of days ago, but have not
heard anything back. I'm hoping someone here can help me.

I think I followed all the steps to install. Tore my hair out doing it. (I'd
much rather just have an installer.)

All I need is a simple conversion to RTF. I did the basics that I've done
before. Here's what I get:

RE: fm 12.0.3 update bug WAS: frame 12 pdf right page "blank" problem

2014-10-01 Thread Vikash Kumar

Hence I uninstalled FM-12
completely and re-installed, then updated with 1, 2, 3 - and now everything is
OK.
