In addition to Rick's videos, try running a search for FrameMaker
autonumbering PDFs written by Dan Emory or Lester Smalley. Both provided
excellent overviews and examples of setting up autonumbering from simple to
pretty danged complex. They are out of date (chapter and section numbers
came out years after they were written), but they're still good
foundational documents.

Re: [Framers] Numbering in an outline with numbers and small letters

2017-06-28 Thread Rick Quatro
Hi David,

The letter-colon combination is called a series label. But in this case you
don't want to have a different series label for each format. When more than one
format has numbering that is related, they should have the same series label.
See my videos for details.

You need to add one more level to the F:< >< ><a+1>.\sn\t.

It should be

F:< >< >*< >*<a+1>.\sn\t

Re: [Framers] Numbering in an outline with numbers and small letters

2017-06-28 Thread Rick Quatro
Hi Tom,

Try something like this:

FigureLegend:
F:< >< >< =0>

FigureLegend_alpha:
F:< >< >< >

Without seeing the rest of the numbering, I am not sure if you need the
first two place holders (< >) in each one.

For a good understanding of FrameMaker autonumbers, you should watch my 20
minute video:

http://frameautomation.com/framemaker-autonumber-primer/

Then, watch this follow up video, which is about 16 minutes:

This one has me stumped, and I have to believe that there is a pretty simple
solution that I'm overlooking.

I have a figure legend that has both numbered and lettered entries. Level
1 items are numerals and Level 2 items are small letters. This works fine,
as long as the level 2 items are the last items in the ordered list.
However, if the level 2 items happen to appear in the middle somewhere, such

ordering doesn't pick back at 3. Instead, I get 6, as in 1, 2, a, b, c
(under 2), and 6.

What do I need to do to have that 3rd level 1 item number continue from the
last level 1 tag?

For reference, here is what I have for tag coding.

FigureLegend covers all level 1 numbers, as well as all that follow: F:<
>< >.\t

FigureLegend_alpha covers the first level 2 item, indented slightly under
the level 1 item: F:< >< >.\sn\t

FIgurelegend_alpa+ covers all level 2 items that follow the item tagged
with the FigureLegend_alpha tag: F:< >< >.\sn\t

Re: [Framers] Tool for importing selected variables

2017-06-28 Thread Monique Semp
   I use BookVars from
   Leximation: [1]http://leximation.com/tools/info/bookvars.php. Although
only for variables, not the rest of the formats like the
ImportFormatsSpecialES, I think it offers more functionality for
   complex variable management.

[Framers] Numbering in an outline with numbers and small letters

2017-06-28 Thread tom . beiswenger
This one has me stumped, and I have to believe that there is a pretty
simple solution that I'm overlooking.

I have a figure legend that has both numbered and lettered entries. Level
1 items are numerals and Level 2 items are small letters. This works
fine, as long as the level 2 items are the last items in the ordered list.
However, if the level 2 items happen to appear in the middle somewhere,
such as 1, 2, followed by a, b, and c, and then back to level 1 at 3, the
ordering doesn't pick back at 3. Instead, I get 6, as in 1, 2, a, b, c
(under 2), and 6.

What do I need to do to have that 3rd level 1 item number continue from
the last level 1 tag?

For reference, here is what I have for tag coding.

FigureLegend covers all level 1 numbers, as well as all that follow: F:<
>< ><n+>.\t

FigureLegend_alpha covers the first level 2 item, indented slightly under
the level 1 item: F:< >< ><a+1>.\sn\t

FIgurelegend_alpa+ covers all level 2 items that follow the item tagged
with the FigureLegend_alpha tag: F:< >< ><a+1>.\sn\t

Re: [Framers] Tool for importing selected variables

2017-06-28 Thread Tammy Van Boening
Yea, that's what I do now and I have different files for different system
variables and user variables. I was tired of this. I wanted "one-stop"
shopping for variable importing and I have two solutions now.

Thanks!

Hi Tammy

I don't remember a specific tool, but there is a technique that may be
helpful. It always worked for me, anyway:

Copy the file that contains the variable you want to import across multiple
files, then open the copy and delete every variable *other than* the
variable you want to import. Re-save the copy, then use that as your 'seed'
document to import the variable in question across multiple files.

This works as stated for user-defined variables. For system variables (from
memory) you have to be a bit more careful, as FrameMaker doesn't allow you
to delete them. I do not know of a way to import one system variable across
a population of files that have different system variable values. This is
where a tool (or Rick) could maybe help.

This would be MOST helpful when I need to import just specific user or

Hi Tammy...

BookVars lets you define a list of variable definitions (user and/or
system) in an external file (INI) and import those variables into a book or
individual files. You can create the INI file manually or by exporting
variable definitions from a selected file ..

ImportFormatsSpecialES allows you to just import system variables and/or
user variables. You can't specify individual variables, but you can just
import one category or the other (or both). It also breaks down document
properties into different categories so you can choose which ones you want
to import.

[Framers] FM2017 - locations of conditional tags?

2017-06-28 Thread Wim Hooghwinkel - idtp
Hi all,

up to FM2015 the 'add/edit condition tag’ window displayed a list of locations
for the selected tag.
In FM2017 the 'edit conditional tag' window doesn’t have this anymore.

Is there now another way to display a list of locations of condtional tags - or
is this a bug?

Thanks,

Vriendelijke groet / Kind regards,

Wim Hooghwinkel
