tables and translation
Hi Verner, Tables are indeed one of the tricky parts in translated FrameMaker files. Some things you can do to avoid laborious manual copy fitting: - adapt your table column widths in the source file to the expected target languages (as you suggested), although it may not always look nice for English. - try to minimize number of columns and avoid long texts in tables (languages like German or Spanish may grow up to 170% of space compared to English, and use long words) - always use table formats and paragraph formats for your tables, this will ease global updates after translation - make sure the translator sets the proper language when converting back to MIF - in your language templates add hyphenation settings to the table paragraph formats, making it possible to break long words (like in German, Dutch etc). This will only work as expected when also the language setting is correct. - instruct translators to take into account the available space . The dreaded Internal Error error meets the dreaded Adobe
Hi Emily, I remember we had the same kind of problem, but I don't recall exactly. It had to do with non-avaialable fonts in an EPS illustration. Did you change illustrations or font settings (may be by installing another printer?). Can you still open all the files in FM and scroll through the pages without errors? What you can do is print the book and deselect the files one by one - a trial and error process to identify the file that causes the error. Next is to print the separate files and deselect pages - to find the page that causes the error. It might help to find the acrobat error log, if created, to check at what page the process stops. By the way, is a postscript file created or does FM crash before that stage? You could try to distill the postscript manually to check at what page the printing crashed. Entering unicode characters directly in an FM 8 document
Hi, did anyone notice if this change of the registry key affects the behavior of the numeric key pad for other use? i.e. does the normal ALT sequence for ASCII characters still work? FrameMaker DITA and CMS
Hi Gordon, Have a look at www.Doczone.com for an end-to-end solution (hosted cms), but not specially linked to FrameMaker. Or Sibersafe http://www.siberlogic.com/sibersafe/.
