Re: [Framers] FrameMaker 2020

2020-01-16 Thread Mueller, Klaus
Hi Doug,

FYI: There's a free *FrameScript* script (FrameScript plugin required)
that displays some information of different objects in a non-modal dialog:
http://www.i-frame.itl.info/en/feature-description/free-scripts/metrics-palette/
(created 2003, still works in 2020 ...)

Kind regards

Subject: Re: [Framers] FrameMaker 2020

What I'd like to see in a new version of FM is a non-modal information
dialog that displays all of the characteristics of the currently selected
frame.

Currently I have to use separate information windows for anchor frames and
object properties, for example. They are non-modal, so that's good, but I
don't have the convenience of looking at the same location to view the data
I'm interested in, since they are separate dialogs.

What's worse is that both text frames and graphic frames use modal
windows. I have to jump through some hoops to view their data, and because
they are modal, I can't use ANY other part of Framemaker unless I close
their Properties dialogs first.

I'm using FM 2017 BTW.

Computers are supposed to make our jobs easier. A single non-modal
information dialog is one way to do so.

Re: [Framers] Missing symbol from FrameMaker's equation editor

2017-02-17 Thread Mueller, Klaus
Hi Martha,

You could insert a dummy string in the equation editor, save the document as
MIF,
locate the dummy string in a text editor (search for MathFullForm) and replace
it with "ϵ".

Alternatively, you could enter the char directly in the equation editor, but
you may
need to activate "EnableHexNumpad" in the registry. For this you can save the
following
text in a text file, name it "EnableHexNumpad.reg" and import it into the
registry:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

;-- After importing this .reg, reboot the system

;-- How to enter Unicode characters:
;-- Alt + 266A
;--1. Press and hold down the Alt key.
;--2. Press the + (plus) key on the numeric keypad.
;--3. Type the hexadecimal unicode value.
;--4. Release the Alt key.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Input Method]
"EnableHexNumpad"="1"

Depending on the fonts used, U+03F5 will work, see the sample attached.

Kind regards,
Klaus

Hi Rick,

How about paragraph alignment towards spine and away from spine? Anchored
frames can be flexibly aligned this way, but not paragraphs! It would open
great layout options both on master and body pages.

Thanks for your offer to contribute your time.

Hi
I am trying to make some course material and was suddenly confused. When I make
a graphic frame on the reference pages in FrameMaker 10 I am prompted to give
it a name. When I click Object Properties on the new frame afterwards I can see
the name I gave the graphic frame.
When I try to do the same in FrameMaker 12 I am still prompted to give the
frame a name. When I click Object Properties however, I can no longer see the
name of the frame.

What am I doing wrong here? Where is the name of the frame?

Best regards

Hi Rick,

except for entries to files immediately following the TOC

With this approach, I see the following problem:
The TOC entries of 15 languages might lead to additional TOC pages.
After the script has deleted those entries, the page numbers won't be
consecutive anymore (except each chapter restarts page numbering).

I want to use ALT+v+l again to view the element boundaries

How is pretty straightforward -- edit the KeySequence.

The Alt shortcut cannot be adjusted by editing the KeySequence entry.
Instead, add an ampersand () char to the command label:

Command ViewElementTags
ReservedLabel Long Element Boundaries (as Tags)
ReservedLabel Undo Show Element Boundaries (as Tags)

I was able to add script commands to a FM10 toolbar after specifying the

  Command MyScriptName1 Definition \x981Label My Label 1...
  Command MyScriptName2 Definition \x989Label My Label 2...

Without specifying the Definition, it did not work.
But I did not really understand what definition values are valid and why.
(Using existing command definition values seems to work and they seem
not to redefine those commands. Using command definition values that
do not exist yet seem not to work for all values.)

I have been able to add custom FrameScript and ExtendScript commands to a
custom toolbar with FrameMaker 11, thanks to Klaus Daube's excellent web site
(http://www.daube.ch). However, with FrameMaker 10, I haven't been as
successful. I think it has to do with the load order; the toolbar code seems to
load before my scripts that define the custom commands. As a result, any
toolbar buttons that point to custom commands don't show. Has anyone else had
any success with this with FrameMaker 10? Any pointers would be appreciated.
Thank you very much.

I know you can go into each file and delete each tag individually but it's very

There are lots of tables and other formatting so exporting to another

Subject: FrameScript Run Error

Hello everybody,

I am running FM7.0 on XP Pro SP3.

Until a while ago no problem but now when I run the FrameScript
SaveBookAsMif.fsl I get the following error:
?
FrameScript: Run Error (Missing Script) on command (SET) At Line(19) in
File(C:\Programmi\ElmSoft\FrameScript5_70\SampleScripts\SaveBookAsMif.fsl)

Missing Subroutine--Cannot find script--DocUtils (Line(19) Col(0) in
File(C:\Programmi\ElmSoft\FrameScript5_70\SampleScripts\SaveBookAsMif.fsl))

On Line 19 of the script I find the following:
 Set gvDocVar = eDocUtils.DocIsOpenAlready{gvCompVar.Name};

Any idea of how to solve this issue?

Thank you

RE: Translating English to Portuguese

2011-11-11 Thread Mueller, Klaus
Hello Wim,

were you aware that FM7 can't display at least two Russian characters?
 They just disappear.

Do you mean the following characters)?
Capital Gje (Ѓ \x0403), Capital Dzhe (Џ \x040F),
Small dje (ђ \x0452), Small kje (ќ \x045C)

Џ 040F and ђ 0452 are part of the Serbian alphabet, Ѓ 0403, Џ 040F
and ќ 045C are used in Macedonian, but none of those characters
are used in Russian (nor in Belarusian or Bulgarian). AFAIK.

Anyway: All those characters can be accessed by FrameMaker 7.2p158
with a (virtual) font that supports the codepage 1251 character set
(like Arial CE).
Are there any other cyrillic characters that are used regularly in Russian
and that are available (e.g. with Arial) in FM8, but not in FM7.2?

Kind reagards,
Klaus

If you are using FrameScript ...

Is there an easy way to see the complete path so I can make
sure I'm working with the correct file and directory?

FrameScript Display Full Doc Path (free)

is there any way, other than Bruce Foster's Archive plugin

Hi all,

I'm running FM9 on Vista 64.

I downloaded WebWorks yesterday to perform some tests regarding an FM -
Confluence migration. Now, my FrameScript menu has disappeared and only
Snag-It, Pubs-Tools (for the BookVars plugin), Tools (for Paragraph and
Character Tools) and WebWorks menus are displayed.

How can I easily manage such menus, for example to have the Snag-It menu (which
I do not use) replaced by the FrameScript menu?

Thank you all,

Mathieu.

Hello Mathieu,

I cannot access the FrameScript menu

Do you get the FrameScript messages in the FM console on FM start?
Try to comment out your (WebWorks) plug-ins in the maker.ini in the
[APIClients] section.

Is there a way to launching a script out of the menu command?

No, I don't think so.

RE: How to get Unicode text in markers (FM9)

2010-05-20 Thread Mueller, Klaus
Hello Wim,

There's no difference between FM8 and FM9 regarding
the encoding - both versions are using Unicode for the
internal character encoding.
Whether Trados uses Unicode or FrameRoman encoding
for the MIF output depends on the source MIF version
(7 - FrameRoman, 8 - Unicode).

Would you know what happens with the marker texts
if the file is resaved (from FM9) into FM7 MIF?

Unicode marker text (other than CP1252) is always
converted question marks.
So this process also requires the conversion of the
marker text to body text and back.

Body text is only converted from Unicode to FrameRoman
if valid virtual fonts are applied (e.g. Arial CYR).
Unicode chars with e.g. Arial will be converted to
question marks when saving as MIF7.

(I attached a new version of the script.)

Kind regards,
Klaus Müller, itl AG

Hello Klaus,

Unfortunately retranslating with FM9 files is not an option now. But apart
from that, I had the same problem with translated FM9 files for another
project. Somehow Trados doesn't create Unicode MIF output. May be that's the
drawback of using MIFFile 8.00, Trados did not update the tools to the FM9
character encodings. Or is there some setting required (S-Tagger or Trados)
to keep Unicode in the translated files? Trados itself can produce Unicode
output, somewhere in the conversion back to MIF this gets converted to (old)
FrameMaker character encodings.

I manually used the procedure you describe. But indeed for my current
project there are hundreds of Index markers so a manual copy-paste etc is
not an option. I didn't think of IxGen yet, I used to have a license but
have not used it for a long time.

Thanks for the script, I'll try it out!

Would you know what happens with the marker texts if the file is resaved

Hello Wim,

So you say that when I save from FM9 as FM9 MIF (or
FM8 MIF) the translated files should be Unicode, including
the marker texts. No extra settings needed for Trados?

Exactly, this is my experience.

may be the files were saved as FM7 MIF then (they were
saved using an old script that I've used ever since FM 7).

Probably your old script used FileType(SaveFmtInterchange).
With FS FdkVersion 80 or 90, this will result in MIF7 (bug or feature?).
Instead, you need SaveFmtInterchange80 (FdkVersion 80) or
SaveFmtInterchange90 (FdkVersion 90). FS 5.1 required.
