framemaker to pdf question

2009-03-16 Thread rebecca.l.fras...@aphis.usda.gov
Framemaker 8.0 Win XP

My coworker is having trouble creating a pdf from Framemaker:

"I received a new error message today when distilling the TM from Frame to
pdf.
After trying multiple ways to pdf (save to, print to), I finally saved to
postscript.
The error message I received in the log said this:
"This document does not meet PDF/A-1b:2005 compliance check. No pdf was
created."

Could anyone tell us what that mean?

Thanks in advance,

FM9 patch 9.0.4

2010-07-08 Thread rebecca.l.fras...@aphis.usda.gov
Good morning everyone!

How important is it to install every patch that comes through? Our IT
person looked at the details and felt that since we didn't have the issues
the patch addresses, we don't need to install it. Does not installing
this patch affect future patches?

Thanks very much!

Replacing Framemaker

2007-02-01 Thread rebecca.l.fras...@aphis.usda.gov
Someone left on my desk (presumably to irritate the heck out me), an
article from the January STC Magazine Intercom called "Old Software." They
underlined a paragraph which says, "also absent from this discussion is
Adobe Framemaker, which is starting to show its age and lack of recent
development. Fans may want to consider using OpenOffice.org Writer."

Now that's not true, is it? I am always arguing with my officemates that
Framemaker is the best software for what we do, which are 700+ page
manuals, with multiple updates and constant repagination. I know nothing
about OpenOffice.org Writer. Does anyone else? I have no desire to
replace, I'm getting ready to learn Structured, but I need some
knowlegable words from my fellow listmates.

Thank very much in advance!

Change bars in Framemaker

2007-06-15 Thread rebecca.l.fras...@aphis.usda.gov
My framehating coworker requested that I send this question in. We use
automatic change bars every time we work on our files. Big ones, 10 pt
thickness, on the left side of the column. When my coworker works on a
file, it will add change bars in areas he hasn't touched, such as chapter
titles. He gets very frustrated over it. And by the way, is having
automatic change bars turned on all the time a good idea?

Thanks for any answers, and have a pleasant weekend!

Adobe Support Package for Framemaker

2007-03-29 Thread rebecca.l.fras...@aphis.usda.gov
Our IT dept has suggested we get an Adobe support package for problems
with Framemaker. I personally always use this group instead and will
continue to do so. Will a support package help the rest of them with their
problems? And I don't know what kind of problems. We had a problem with
dropped fonts for awhile, but I found the Dov Isaacs email about PDF
settings and fixed mine, at least.

Distiller error

2008-12-29 Thread rebecca.l.fras...@aphis.usda.gov
FM 8.0p277 WinXP

I am unable to distill a file. It gets to page 57 and then says - [ Error:
undefined; OffendingCommand: Cell ]

Can someone tell me what it means?

Thanks in advance!

Trouble with xrefs (sending again with correct subject line!)

2010-09-22 Thread rebecca.l.fras...@aphis.usda.gov
I have FM 9.0p255, Windows XP.

We are having a problem with cross-references. For some reason, our cross
references are adding quote marks around the paratext. Editing the xref
definition doesn't work, Importing xrefs from another manual doesn't work.
It's just ignoring us.
My coworker is getting very frustrated. Thanks very much for any help!

Help! My postscript file won't distill

2006-04-13 Thread rebecca.l.fras...@aphis.usda.gov
Every time I try to print a Framemaker book to postscript (or save as PDF)
I get the message - This PostScript file was created from an encrypted PDF
file.
Redistilling encrypted PDF is not permitted.

I have checked all of the security settings and there is no security
settings. What is causing this, and how can I remove the security
settings?
Thanks very much for anyone's help!

Help! My postscript file won't distill

2006-04-13 Thread rebecca.l.fras...@aphis.usda.gov
I just solved my own problem. Apparently there was an encrypted pdf form
imported into one of the framemaker files. After I deleted the imported
pdf, I had no problem.

Fillable pdf forms and Framemaker documents

2006-12-27 Thread rebecca.l.fras...@aphis.usda.gov
I was under the impression you could insert a fillable form into a
Framemaker book after it had been converted to PDF. I keep trying and the
fields go away. If anyone can help me, I would be grateful!!! Thanks.

Creating a Folded Booklet

2006-10-04 Thread rebecca.l.fras...@aphis.usda.gov
Is is possible to build a folded booklet in Framemaker? I have to create a
3-1/2" x 6" dictionary, and I'd rather use FM instead of Word. Thanks for
any help!

border around a word?

2007-08-07 Thread rebecca.l.fras...@aphis.usda.gov
If I was going to put a border around a word, I would insert a text frame
at the appropriate place, insert a table with one row and one column, set
the appropriate width, set the margins to 2 pt or so, and set the
appropriate ruling style. Then I would insert the word or phrase.
