Re: [Framers] FM2019 and gremlins
Hi All, OK, sorry for going dark in my reply, but I am getting too dam*ed old for this sh*t. First, my backup system just got home from repairs yesterday and this morning, my primary work system decided to take a cr*p as well. So, I had to get in to see the doc as well . . . At this stage in the game, I want a friggin' tent and horse and call life good. So, I decided to try something before sending out an SOS for a MIF wash and I kid you not. . . it worked. I took the backup file to the non-opening FM file and changed the extension from backup.fm to .mif and then when prompted w/ the question about which application did I want to open the file, I chose FM2019 and voila, it really flipping worked. The file opened up like nobody's business and I perused it and all was just as expected - it had the same date and timestamp as its source .fm file so I knew the content was indeed the most current - and so, I then saved the file as the .fm file and now all is right in my little world - relatively speaking of course after 2 days of sick systems. And thank you for the information about the gremlins that caused the Welcome screen fiasco. I can live w/ it. . . as long as I have my systems working and my files accessible. I am going to have a liquid dinner tonight.😀 This list rocks as always. Hi, I work all the time on an external USB drive and now and then either directly on our network or connected via VPN. I do not notice any issues. If it's just you working on them, I'd haul them all local, work on them, and then zip them up to be backed up on the network location each day. If there are more authors involved, then your source control system should be checking files out & back in for you. Re: [Framers] FM2019 and gremlins
Welcome screen issues - several reports on the FM forum; Adobe is looking into it - there's a workaround involving editing the welcome.htm file posted. It appears that some Win10 update has messed it up. Unopenable file - haven't got much to help you on that - maybe download the 2020 trial and try opening a copy of it with that and if it works back save it & as .mif From: Framers on behalf of tamm...@spectrumwritingllc.com Sent: Tuesday, February 22, 2022 6:29 PM To: framers@lists.frameusers.com Subject: [Framers] FM2019 and gremlins So, I just opened FM2019 (Windows 10, 64-bit, fully updated) for the first time in in about a month and a half and whoa. . . the Welcome screen has been taken over by gremlins apparently. . . it has a totally different layout, font size, different options etc. I had no idea that this was even possible. . .I mean it's a desktop app with a perpetual license so the app doesn't have to "phone home" when I launch it , but then even further, after I opened the book that I last worked on 6 weeks ago, and for one file in the book, I am getting the following message: The file "filename.fm" is not a FM file. [Framers] FM2019 and gremlins
So, I just opened FM2019 (Windows 10, 64-bit, fully updated) for the first time in in about a month and a half and whoa. . . the Welcome screen has been taken over by gremlins apparently. . . it has a totally different layout, font size, different options etc. Framemaker can try to open the file in either Framemaker or in the file's native application. Uh, the file >>IS<< an FM file . . . I just worked on it 6 weeks ago w/out any issues. When I click on the Framemaker option, I then get a second message stating that the file can't be opened with this version of FM. . . but it's a file that I just opened 6 weeks ago. I punted and then tried the heroic open option to no avail. I know the chances of this oddity being related to the Welcome screen metamorphosis is pretty slim, but >>SOMETHING<< had to change in the app to give me two issues at once. Thoughts I really, really need to be able to open this file.
