RE: FM 10 Backward Compatibility

2011-02-01 Thread Bernard Aschwanden (Publishing Smarter)
I've opened v6, v7, v8, and of course v9 files with v10. If you have any older
ones, zip and email a sample to me and I can test it
out.

FM10 should be able to open *any* .fm file, regardless of vintage.
Back-saving from FM10 in a form that can be opened by older versions of
FrameMaker is another matter, though...

I would like to know what the backward file compatibility of Frame10 is.
What is the oldest rev of FrameMaker whose files Frame10
can open natively, without the need for an intermediate conversion to MIF?

Well, Fred has a point, but as far as I know, all legacy versions of
Frame can open a MIF file and FM 10 can back save in several earlier
version MIF formats. If there are functions or information in it that
are newer than the opening version, that data is ignored (I don't know
if it is discarded or preserved though).

But if you have some real antique FM files, download the eval and have it it
